Commercial Description:
The elusive brew is made from pilsner malt and amber malt with an original gravity of 26.5?P, yielding an 11% abv. It's hopped with Warrior and Glacier varieties. Primary fermentation takes place in open vessels using two yeast strains, one American and one English. For added complexity, the beer is conditioned on barrel staves of French Oak for four months before being dry hopped with Glacier at the rate of a half-pound per barrel. This elixir is then blended 50/50 with 90 Minute IPA. After blending, the beer will measure 80 IBU and 10% abv. Bottled in corked bottles through Michael Jackson’s rare beer club by late November 04 and available in 12 ounce full distribution in early January 05.

Cool label. Dark amber pour with a light, sticky head. Excellent aroma of floral hops and sweet honey. The flavor is very full. The label says it is lush, and I agree. Taste of orange and a clean hoppy tingle in the finish. This is excellent, and possibly my favorite from Dogfish Head. It is a very sweet IPA, so it probably will not please everyone, but I like them that way.

Bottle via trade thanks to ericwo on BA. Clear deep amber color with a small cream-colored head. Great piney/floral hop aroma with sweet malt also present. Flavor is lots of sweet caramel malt, oak, and citrusy/piney hops. High malt-to-hop ratio relative to other IPAs. I guess the hops "fade" a bit in the barrel but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Fairly full palate. A great beer overall, as I’ve come to expect from DFH.

Pours the color of a light brandy, with a minimal head. Aroma is very nice- hoppy like a true DIPA, but has a sweetness almost like a barleywine. Flavor isn’t as aggressive as expected- nice citrus and grass hops, but smooth. Solid offering.

Clear amber pour with minimal head. Aroma is floral and quite fruity with mild slight resin and fruity caramel note. Flavor is citrus with some gassy notes and hints of resin. Palate is medium with resinous and dry finish. Very nice quaff.

Clear dark amber pour, medium creamy khaki head. Huge pungent hop aroma - grapefruit, passionfruit, hop oils and resins. Full bodied, but surprisingly restrained in any sort of alcohol heat. Lots of caramelly malts. Not too bitter. In general, manages a quite delicate balance between the almost excessive quantities of malts and the hops. In its own way, there’s little doubt this is good stuff. Lots of similarities to Founder’s Devil Dancer, which I slightly prefer.

12oz brown bottle. Bottled on 3/20/09. Served in a Duvel tulip. Poured a bright gold/amber with a finger of off white head. Piny/citrusy hop aroma with a little alcohol, also a bit of oak. This started off with a good malt base. Not as much hop bitterness as the aroma might suggest. In the flavor, the oak is pretty subtle, mostly in the finish. Solid medium body. Good beer, nice balance.
