The flavor was extremely complex and had a unique sweet flavor to it, with notes of caramel, malt, hops, butterscotch, wine and a vanilla finish. I thought this beer was different from most I2PA’s and reminded me of a ASA or a BW. Very Easy drinking and smooth for 10%. wingman333 (250), San Antonio, Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 28, 2008 Reddish and clear in color...a very good smelling beer, too, with a peachy-type aroma. The taste was not very overwhelming, slightly on the thin side, in fact. I expected more bitterness and flavors of the wood intermingled. This was not bad, just not what I expected. nimbleprop (947), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 28, 2008 From a 12oz bottle pours a deep, transparent, copper amber color with a slight off white head that settled into a lasting ring. Aroma much like a typical IPA, citrus, pine but also heavy vanilla and oak. Flavor reminded me a lot of a barleywine, hop bitterness with a strong malt backing. Hints of biscuit, bourbon, vanilla and oak. Full bodied in the mouth with some lasting bitterness. Unique and tasty. frylock (1026), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 27, 2008 Copper colored beneath a thick and dense white head. Aroma of citrus, some tropical fruits and wood. Pleasant bitterness balanced by some lightly toasty malts. Piney hops, melon and a dry oak filled finish. One of the better Dogfish Head beers I have had in along time. jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 27, 2008 Lightly hazy amber with a two-finger head. Boozy, hoppy aroma with a good deal of toasted caramel. There’s a smooth cereal grain sweetness underneath it all. The flavor, which begins with a very nice toffee and wood flavor, finishes with more alcohol than hop. I’m guessing the oak has something to do with that. Could be toned down a smidgen, but I like it. sbrewno (49), Frankfort, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 25, 2008 Burton passed a sugary-sweet baton here. Mildly disappointing that the oak apparently did not add much to this beer. The alcohol and IBUs are present, but I expected more from the label and price. Not a bad beer, but not DFs best effort. IPA-lovers/hopheads may be let down by this one........ raiderfost (158), virginia beach, Virginia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 25, 2008 12 oz bottle from G&G. Pours a brilliant copper with a half inch creamy head. Fruit and wood aroma. Not your average double ipa. Alot going on in this brew. Kind of pricey but a must try for all beer lovers. performula (147), Triangle Area, North Carolina, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Mar 24, 2008 There is the term as no such thing as bad beer. Well this is close. Something about oak and IPAs doesn’t fit with me. The beer has a harsh sting when swallowed. Tastes more like rubbing alchohol than an Imperial brew.
