Commercial Description:
The elusive brew is made from pilsner malt and amber malt with an original gravity of 26.5?P, yielding an 11% abv. It's hopped with Warrior and Glacier varieties. Primary fermentation takes place in open vessels using two yeast strains, one American and one English. For added complexity, the beer is conditioned on barrel staves of French Oak for four months before being dry hopped with Glacier at the rate of a half-pound per barrel. This elixir is then blended 50/50 with 90 Minute IPA. After blending, the beer will measure 80 IBU and 10% abv. Bottled in corked bottles through Michael Jackson’s rare beer club by late November 04 and available in 12 ounce full distribution in early January 05.

12 oz bottle from G&G. Pours a brilliant copper with a half inch creamy head. Fruit and wood aroma. Not your average double ipa. Alot going on in this brew. Kind of pricey but a must try for all beer lovers.

There is the term as no such thing as bad beer. Well this is close. Something about oak and IPAs doesn’t fit with me. The beer has a harsh sting when swallowed. Tastes more like rubbing alchohol than an Imperial brew.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a moslty clear copper with a moderate off-white head that lasted until mid-glass and left some patchy lace. I was surprised at how light and frankly indistinct the aroma was. Thankfully, the beer was more flavorful than the aroma would suggest with some oak and caramel up front followed up with some nice fruity hops. Definite warming from the alcohol at the finish, especially as the beer neared room temperature. An interesting beer albeit overpriced for a four-pack.

This beer seems underrated to me. It had me from the pour... an attractive, deep dark orange and nice bubbles making it look cloudy as they rose to the top and the beer settled. White head disappeared rather quickly but left some lovely lacing. Smell knocked my socks off... much fruitier than expected, and the oak was present by definitely not overpowering. More wood than sourness or vanilla. Lots of hops on the nose. Thought I tasted the 90 minute in there and wasn’t surprised to read that in the description. Some pine and grapefruit, orange, spices, brown sugar on the palate as well as some wood and slight vanilla from the oak. Slightly creamy finish. I really enjoyed this beer. The price is the only thing I don’t love about it.

Nice amber/copper pour with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is of spiced fruits and light hops. Very fruity flavor like spiced apples/peaches. Tons of general spicy flavor with a clean, smooth, light hop finish. Very nicely balanced beer.

From a plastic cup at the brewery. Amber with big orange head. Hop, fruit, wood aroma. Flavor is caramel, fruit, spice. Oranges and apples in there. Liked this a lot.

Pours a dark honey with a thick off-white head that diminishes quickly.Minimal lacing. Quite malty, but that doesn’t prevent the hops from making their presence known. Malt flavor is accompanied by oak. Mouthfeel is good - nothing spectacular. Aftertaste brings the hops back for an encore, but is also rather metallic. Alcohol is well hidden.

Pours a reddish brown with 1 finger ofoff white head. Huge aroma of hops with some oak and malt as well. Flavor of hops, oak, grapefruit, pine and caramel. Interesting twist on the style, but seems a but off centered (probably because it’s for off centered people). Still pretty good, but not fantastic.
