Commercial Description:
The elusive brew is made from pilsner malt and amber malt with an original gravity of 26.5?P, yielding an 11% abv. It's hopped with Warrior and Glacier varieties. Primary fermentation takes place in open vessels using two yeast strains, one American and one English. For added complexity, the beer is conditioned on barrel staves of French Oak for four months before being dry hopped with Glacier at the rate of a half-pound per barrel. This elixir is then blended 50/50 with 90 Minute IPA. After blending, the beer will measure 80 IBU and 10% abv. Bottled in corked bottles through Michael Jackson’s rare beer club by late November 04 and available in 12 ounce full distribution in early January 05.

I got to say I had high hopes for this and it didnt quite live up. Aged IPA and 90 Min, together? Well it was too good to be true, this is a little bit bland. Obviously the aging would smooth out the 90, but it doesnt add enough back. At 10% thats nice, but at $14 for a 4-pack I dont think i will be coming back.

12oz. Pours hazy brown with small tan head. Aromas of oak, malt, and a small amount of hops. Flavors of wood, hops, sweet malt? and alcohol. Not a great beer, but ok. Nothing special at all.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark amber color. Small head. Aroma is oak, vanilla, hops. Flavor is oak, vanilla, hops, and notes of citrus. Extremely smooth beverage. Alcohol is present, but does not detract from this beer.

The cowboy strikes again! Bottle: shared by robert at stateline. Nice dark amber color, small head. Smell is oak, hops, sugar and some fruits. Taste is not like an DIPA. Right away you are hit with the oak, then some fruits, sugar, and small amount of hops. Pretty smooth and over all enjoyable. I will have to pick up a bottle for my self. Thanks Roberto!****UPDATE****April 30th. Picked a couple bottles for my self. Pretty much think the same as the sample but the flavor had a little more character then I remember. Nice blend of hops and good touch of oak. Different DIPA by DFH! Over all good beer!

12 oz bottle. pours rich mahogany in hue, rather minute head for the i2pa. aromas right off the bat are of tasted oak, nectarines, and a candied, creamy-light caramelized curacao peel. there is also juicy citrus present, though not as prominent as the typical DFH brew or i2pa. The aroma alone has made this money well spent. The taste is that of one of the most unique in my favorite style. Layers!!!!! typical heavier caramel, earthiness mixed with citrus rind, but then there’s the oaky and candied grapefruit and juicy grapefruit chunks. There is a slight alcohol taste on the finish, but that juice flavor just lingers with the bittering hops. And what a finish! 4 minutes afterwards, the taste is still there...pleasantly smooth and rounded bitterness blended with a toasty oak flavor on the mid- and back- palate. I highly recommend this ale if you can ever get your hands on it.

This one tasted more like a barleywine than a IIPA, although it didn’t have the bitey-ness that barleywines have. Basically, it tasted like an aged IIPA. The hops had mellowed out greatly. Thats probably what they were going for but I wasn’t terribly impressed with it. It was actually quite good though- I didn’t think the sweetness was too overpowering, the alcohol was well hidden, but basically I thought it would’ve been better with a stronger hops presence.

This beer pores reddish-brown copper color that is transperant. The head is pretty full with long-lasting lacing. It almost smells like a white wine with citrus, vanilla, and wood. Hops too. Wow, that is an interesting flavor. I definitely see how this grew out of the 90-minute IPA, but there is another level of complexity here from the aging process. Think 90 minute with a fuller palate, a pinch of vanilla sugar, and more alcohol in the aftertaste. An interesting creation.

Pours a dark copper color, with a sweet malt aroma. Tastes a sweet fruity flavor with a hint of hops and an oak. Pleasantly surprised with this one been waiting all month to find it.
