Commercial Description:
The elusive brew is made from pilsner malt and amber malt with an original gravity of 26.5?P, yielding an 11% abv. It's hopped with Warrior and Glacier varieties. Primary fermentation takes place in open vessels using two yeast strains, one American and one English. For added complexity, the beer is conditioned on barrel staves of French Oak for four months before being dry hopped with Glacier at the rate of a half-pound per barrel. This elixir is then blended 50/50 with 90 Minute IPA. After blending, the beer will measure 80 IBU and 10% abv. Bottled in corked bottles through Michael Jackson’s rare beer club by late November 04 and available in 12 ounce full distribution in early January 05.

This is a great beer i truly enjoyed it, i was a bit pessamistic because i dislike the 90 min so much but the oak age and added hops balanced it out very well. it can be a bit richer but overall a great beer although very expensive.

12 oz bottle. This has got to be the most mild imperial ipa I have ever had, but then again, its really only half standard imperial ipa. That aspect of the beer makes it quite pleasant and unique, but still in the end, I was left wanting a little bit more from it. Definitely light oak wood in the aroma along with a interesting variety of mild notes such as white wine, dates, burnt grass, light herb, almost pumpkin-like spiced fruits, and pie crust. Some thicker, soapy white head on the pour, minor lacing, little retention, medium opacity and a unique shade of autumn orange with the color. As mentioned earlier, there’s not much pop on the palate here, or at least not as much as expected. Smooth, almost creamy mostly throughout, with just a touch of alcohol in the finish. As I drank this one, I definitely started to pick out some more subtleties than I did before. Notes here are mostly balanced with light spiced fruits, thick grass, oak bark, earth, light resin through the finish, white grape juice, and a lingering herbal hop. At times I wanted to love this beer and at other times I was slightly disappointed in the lack of punch. I ended up just really liking it.

12 oz. Clear copper with a lasting quarter inch of bubbles. Nose of caramel, orange, toasted wood and resin is well blended. Flavor is more of the same mix with a dry resin, wood, and citrus finish. Medium body is smoothly carbonated and well tingly with hops and alcohol.

12oz bottle. Pours a lightly clouded, amber-red colored body with an orange tint. Finger-width, creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a good amount of lacing. Aroma has lots of sweeter, resiny, somewhat sugary citrus hops up front with a sweeter caramel malt. A light grass, dough, and peach as well. The oak is present, but more subtle than I was anticipating. The flavor is the same with the oak remaining light, but definitely more noticable. Starts with that light oakiness before lots of sweet, candy citrus comes in. Leads into a sweeter caramel body, some mango, brown sugar, and more sweet hops as the light oak leads this into a sweet, light resin, somewhat dry wood, and a rather light bitterness that lingers for a moderate duration. A little alcohol can be noticed towards the end as this starts to warm the throat. Smooth, medium body, and slightly sticky in the finish as well. Overall, this wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, but it was still solid. The oak is rather light, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it could be a little more pronounced to balance the higher amount of sweeter hops. Also, this has a lot of hop flavor, but the bitterness is a little low in the finish and the alcohol warmth could tone it down a bit. All-in-all, I know I’ve said a few bad things about it, but its still a good beer. There’s a few rough edges, but I still enjoyed it.

A: Pours a nice amber red color with little to no head. It is a very thick looking brew that despite the minimal head does manage to leave behind a little lacing. S: Very sweet smelling with notes of rock candy, malt, and a touch of oak. This baby has the aroma of good peanut brittle. T: Not at all what I expected. It is very sweet and creamy initially. You are hit with a huge rush of lightly spiced brown sugar with a dash of vanilla. A maltiness is then noted with a mild hint of oak. What I don’t taste is the hops of the 90 min used to brew this one. Wish it could have finished or started for that matter with a rush of bitter piney hops. Bitter sweet would have made this brew. M: This is a thick brew no doubt about it. I started drinking it a little on the cool side which may have thickened it up a bit, but by the time I was finished and it had warmed the beer was still rather thick in body.

Bottle shared by JoeTheYounger. Pours a clear amber with an off white head. Aroma is honey, caramel, citrus, and some sweetish alcoholic notes. Flavor is sugary with pine, citrus, and caramel. Full bodied and sticky with moderate carbonation.
