Commercial Description:
Similar to a beer brewed in China some 9,000 years ago, Chateau Jiahu used a recipe that included rice, honey, and grape and hawthorn fruits. The formula was obtained from archaeologists who derived it from the residues of pottery jars found in the late Stone Age village of Jiahu in northern China. The residues are the earliest direct evidence of brewed beverages in ancient China.

Had at beer bistro diner with Sam. really nice brew kinda a hazy yellow color, some small white head. nose is a little spicy, some citrus but not too strong. Flavor is kinda fruity not too sweet, citrus, pear, thirst quenching, was not really looking forward to this one but was happily surprised.

Pours hazy gold with a minimal white head. Aroma of honey and rice. Tatse is honey sweet up front to a alcohol/citrus/cerial grain finish. more interesting than good. Not bad at all, but not worth the price.

Bottle dated 7/10/07: Murky gold color with little head...very grainy nose on this with some mild citrus and rice notes, light malts. This is definitely an interesting brew...the flavor seems to be in the mold of BMC products but with a slight twist. I’m not sure what exactly is represented in said twist, but it doesn’t exactly help this brew out.

Bottled 8/28/06. Pours clear honey gold with lots of white sediment and head is large quickly dissolving bubbles. Aroma was light alcohol with green grape skins and slight honey. Mouth feel is lightly chewy with lively bubbles on the tongue. Taste is like a Mead/ Sauvignon Blanc/ and maybe cinnamon or something. Overall, it’s decent. But for a 9000 year old recipie, it’s outstanding.

Hazy bright orange, champagne-like head of tiny bubbles. Musty grapey honey aroma. Vinous, yeasty, sweet and meady. Certainly different; sweet but refreshing, and as I continued to sip a vague spiciness became evident that I just couldn’t put my finger on (the yeast maybe?).

20070113 Tap at HDG Daze. Pale but opaque, rich white head. Tropical fruits in aroma, a touch vegetal. Wine-like, sauv. blanc, with grape juice and vinous flavors throughout. Notes of pineapple. Pretty dry stuff.

North Raleigh Tasting. Cloudy yellow pour with frothy white head and decent lacing. Apple aroma. Flavor is very similar to a Chardonnay. This beer just isnt for me. I am glad I tried it though

Pours a cloudy light orange with a foamy white head. Nice aroma of white grapes, apples, honey and vanilla. Flavor is mostly fruity, grapes and unripe apples. There are hints of malt and hops as well. Dry, sweet finish. Glad I tried it, but probably wouldn’t buy again.
