Commercial Description:
Similar to a beer brewed in China some 9,000 years ago, Chateau Jiahu used a recipe that included rice, honey, and grape and hawthorn fruits. The formula was obtained from archaeologists who derived it from the residues of pottery jars found in the late Stone Age village of Jiahu in northern China. The residues are the earliest direct evidence of brewed beverages in ancient China.

I really enjoyed this beer. It pours a hazy amber with a quickly fleeting head. There’s a really interesting fruitiness (I’m going to assume it’s the hawthorn). A bit of honey on the nose. Fairly mellow, but still flavorful. Really tasty.

Aroma of mixed fruit, spices and some malt too, apricot, with a small white head. Tastes of pear, white plums, malt and some candied ginger. Medium bodied, very well balanced, complex. Most unique! Thanks radiomgb!

Cloudy dark blonde color with a head of vague, seperating continents. Aroma is meadlike with some muscat grape note and a distinct pepperiness. Crisp, light body with a wonderful medley of flavors and honey viscous mouthfeel. Touches of pepper with herbs and honeyed sweetness. Wonderful complexity. Slight alcohol underpinning, though and a bit watery. Delightful, but certainly a ritual and not a session beer.

Pours Light cloudy yellow with a medium body. Small white small bubble foam head. ARoma of champaign, grapes, white wine. Medium-light palate. Slavor of sugars, fruity esters and some kind of flower. Dry finish, with a little fizzy bite.

Good Beverage. It would NEVER be my everyday beer but an interesting conversation piece/drink. I would buy it again, but just to have in the cellar for a special drink

Bottle: Golden yellow in color, no head. No lacing. Aroma is sweet. Flavor is sweet fruity rice? Touch of honey, grapefuit, white grapes and spices. Pretty good! Easy to drink. Light texture. Medium carbonation. Small amount of bitterness. Lots of flavor! Hats off to the brewers at Dogfish head for trying to recreate something different. This beer is quite enjoyable and I would but it again!

Bottle courtesy Boboski. Pours an orange amber with virtually no head and lots of chunks. Very light fruity malt aroma. Wine like malt taste with touches of honey, tangerine and white grapes. A nice experiment, but couldn’t drink this all of the time.
