Commercial Description:
Similar to a beer brewed in China some 9,000 years ago, Chateau Jiahu used a recipe that included rice, honey, and grape and hawthorn fruits. The formula was obtained from archaeologists who derived it from the residues of pottery jars found in the late Stone Age village of Jiahu in northern China. The residues are the earliest direct evidence of brewed beverages in ancient China.

Pours a golden color with a thin white head. It is a very interesting mix of flavors: honey, grape, this is barely even a beer. It has a very light mouthfeel. That said, it is a truly amazing drink; simply wonderful!

Bottle at home with Tom ... Bit thanks to RIS101 for this... Very hazy yellow ... light malt nose ... Sweet fruity little tartness ... some lemon tones juicy and complex ... some sweet fruit tones in end ... little honeyish ... definitly some raisins ... alcohol dont show ...This is superb...

Tk2 at home ... thanks to Ken for this one...almost day glow orange ... sweet tart orange and brandy ... sweet fruityness ... lots of orange ... again a little brandy spirit... some honey ... juicy ... some grape ... this works so much better for me than the Golden Elixir... big honey as this breathes ... maybe not the 4.3 or the original rating buy a solid 4 at least.

Bottle at cgarvieuk’s jig party shack. Aroma is honey, spice, lightly smokey pale malt, sweet but still balanced with grasssy hop notes. Taste is similar, honey, mead notes, fruity, floral, reminisant of a great chinese tea with whole flower in it with mead added. Excellent very drinkable and no alc to be seen.

Golden colored, complex, balanced with alcohol as a subtext. Nice rice and honey overtones with a pleasant tartness. Different and worth it. A complete 180 degree turn from the Imp Stout school. I love this beer (?).

Bottle @ Coles Buffalo NY. Sweet honey aroma. Pored a flat golden color. Sweet honey, saffron taste. Alchohol well hidden. Pretty good

Orangy, spicy nose with hints of honey and a whaff of alcohol. Hazy gold color with a fluffy head initially that disappates quickly. Chewy malt body with honey notes again, yeasty undertones too, and overall fruity. Spicy dry end, but this one leaves a dollop of sugary sweetness on the lips like a lollipop. Fat. Big. Good.

Intense dark orange color - almost golden. No pillow on top. Medium carbonation visable with some nice bubbles flipping up on the surface. Sweet oranges nose, also light ginger. Prickles on the tonge, soft and not to spicey, medium long finish. Overripe plum and orange taste detectable. Quite like it!

On tap-@ the Rehoboth Brewpub. Poured a very cloudy golden yellow color w/no head. Sweet aroma, reminded me of a Belgian Ale. Flavors of candied sugar, honey, white grapes, orange peel, bananas, & ginger. Had some carbonation to it. I had heard some people say how odd this beer was but I found it quite enjoyable. Smooth, easy drinking brew; alcohol was very well hidden. Long spiced finish.
