Commercial Description:
Similar to a beer brewed in China some 9,000 years ago, Chateau Jiahu used a recipe that included rice, honey, and grape and hawthorn fruits. The formula was obtained from archaeologists who derived it from the residues of pottery jars found in the late Stone Age village of Jiahu in northern China. The residues are the earliest direct evidence of brewed beverages in ancient China.

Pours a cloudy lemony color. Mine had more than a few suspended particles and a minimal head. Faintly floral aroma. The flavor is a nice, crisp pear-pineapple with a good bite on the back of the tongue. The alcohol makes its presence felt in a nice way, with a gentle warming at the end and just a hint of burn. A very nice change of pace.

Cloudy golden, moderate head with good lacing and retention. Aroma is spiced honey, sweet malt notes. Enough body to carry the 9% well, lightly sweet finish. Not a lot of complexity but it was strangely enjoyable.

This ale pours a light gold color from a 750ml bottle. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is malty, orange, herbal with a touch of honey. Medium bodied Ale. Malts are fruity and sweet, orange and citrusy. Hops are citrusy. Interesting beer, there are a lot of flavors mixing and matching here. Some orange, some honey, some ginger, some spices. Nice carbonation. Yet another beer in a line of slightly weird, off the mainstream beers from Dogfish Head. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

pours a nice light color with an allmost wheat beer look. smells slightly sweet with some fruit tones. Thought this would be a knockout beer but ended up being quite drinkable. nice honey sweetness with various fruits and spices. would definately have this one again.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy, pale gold body with a teeny, tiny white head. Smell: Faint aroma of pears, white grapes, and honey. Taste: Weak, meandering flavors of thin strawberry juice, dusty grapes, subtle spices, and sweet grains. Finishes with a tangy-sweet zip. Mouthfeel: Thin-bodied. Low carbonation. Drinkability: Thanks, but no thanks. So far, I haven’t been a big fan of these "residue beers".
