Commercial Description:
Similar to a beer brewed in China some 9,000 years ago, Chateau Jiahu used a recipe that included rice, honey, and grape and hawthorn fruits. The formula was obtained from archaeologists who derived it from the residues of pottery jars found in the late Stone Age village of Jiahu in northern China. The residues are the earliest direct evidence of brewed beverages in ancient China.

This offering from DFH pours a cloudy dirty blonde that leaves a thin lacing that disappears leaving a spotchy thin head on top. The aroma is sour grapes, lemon, herbs that are hard to define in this nose. The taste starts very sweet, almost fruit juice quality grapes, lemon, herbal bitterness that finishes tart like a "sweet tart" almost. The feel on the palate is syrupy sweet refreshing with a slight carbonation that helps balance the overall beer as not to make it overly sweet, but it is still dominatly sweet. Overall great job DFH, if this is what they drank in ancient time then pour me another!

Bomber. Poured very cloudy. Looked like apple juice. Very tiny, fizzy, white head. Aroma was very faint. Flavor like a fruity riesling. Hints of grape. Mild sour aftertaste, but not much. Mild tasting beer. No sign of the alcohol. Malty. Meshes well. Medium bodied. extremely easy to drink. I liked it. It was different for sure.

(Bottle 75 cl) Pours a very unclear golden with a small, off-white head. Spicy, pop-like aroma. Medium body with sweetish, fruity, lightly floral accents - reminds me of some fancy designer pop. Very subdued bitterness. Well.... 011206

Bomber. This is an interesting one that’s unlike pretty much anything that I’ve tasted to date. Poured very fizzy with an appearance of grapefruit juice with lots of pulp. Big fizzy head that retreats rapdily like seltzer. Aroma is of a sweet rice wine or a weak saki. Flavor is a melon-like fruity sweetness with stong malt. There is definilty a sour malt aftertaste. THe best description for all round flavor would be it tastes like drinking a fizzy alchohol infused sweet and sour mix. I don’t think that I will buy this again. However, it’s not too bad and I actually think that I kind of enjoyed it for some reason. It is very different.

Bottle. Hazy orange yellow colour with a big white head. Sweet candy, light stabel, lether, spicy aroma and a sweet soda pop, light metallic, earthy, light sour taste. Medium body with a sweet light sour finish.

This bottled brew from Patrick767 at a rating party poured a small sized head of finely sized white colored bubbles that were and left behind a very hazy no visible carbonation dark yellow brown colored body and a good lacing. The complex aroma was malty. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a medium vinous aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of malt and was very complex with many other notes that I could not discriminate. The bottle says Hawthorne so that must have been it. A decent one that I would consider drinking again.

Pours cloudy yellow with quick disappearing head. Strong apple nose, almost ciderish. The first impression on the palate is its smoothness . Very light carbonation that compliments the sour apple notes. Crisp finish that lingers with a cider-like taste. Overall a VERY interesting brew. Dogfish once again has impressed me taking a chance on something completely out there. Top notch.

Did not know what to think of this one. Aroma was mild with some fruit notes and a very mild honey note. Color was a straw yellow with a very thin white head which disappered fast. Flavor was mildly fruity with grape notes and some citrusy notes; finishing with a honey like sweetness. Seemed a little watery on the palate.
