Commercial Description:
Chicory Stout is a rich, dark beer made with a touch of roasted chicory, organic Mexican coffee, St. John's Wort, and licorice root. It is brewed with roast barley, crystal malt and oats and hopped just right with Glacier hops. We use fair trade Organic Mexican Coatepec beans roasted to our specifications by Notting Hill Coffee Roastery in Lewes, DE.

Dark pour with brown head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee, some roastiness. Flavor is chocolate, licorice, coffee, some roasted malt. Nice flavor, nice mouthfeel. Lightly bitter finish. Pretty cool.

From a 12 oz bottle this poured really rich dark brown with a light brown creamy head and good thick lacing rings. Nose was toasted malts, chocolate and the chicory coffee that gives it the name. Mouthefeel is slick and smooth. Flavor is fairly complex with the chocolate malts dominating. Bittersweet finish. Overall a nice rich and easy drinking stout. Another good offering from Dogfish Head. We are fortunate so many of their brews make it out west.

Pours deep brown with a thin cream colored head. Coffee nose with roasted malt. Quite the same in the flavor. Mostly smooth, sweetish coffee and a subtle bitter finish.

pours dark brown with a off khaki colored head that dwindles quickly. aroma is roasted grains and dark caramel. taste is of oatmeal, coffee and cocoa. aftertaste is somewhat nutty and sweet with a fairly clean palette. i have to say im not really tasting the chicory, but ive never had anything with chicory in it, so im not an expert on its flavor profile anyway.

Bottle from Central Market. Powerful aroma hits with chocolate, coffee and a hint of hops. Bubbly head but pours a crisp black with hints of red. Very smooth with clean chocolate malts. Not as much coffee as I had hoped, and also finishes a little bitter. Still a good beer, though.

12 oz bottle. Pours black, small tan head. Soft coffee aroma with lingering notes of chocolate. Flavor is similiar with the addition of oats and roasted chicory. Like others, I could really detect the licorice. Slight silky mouthfeel. Decent stout.

Pours black with a small tan head. Very earthy wood and milk chocolate aromas with hints of coffee, chicory, and dark fruit (maybe plum or dates). Flavor is similar but with a splendid balance of sweet and bitter, leaning slightly to the sweet side. Delicious session stout, very enjoyable.
