Commercial Description:
Chicory Stout is a rich, dark beer made with a touch of roasted chicory, organic Mexican coffee, St. John's Wort, and licorice root. It is brewed with roast barley, crystal malt and oats and hopped just right with Glacier hops. We use fair trade Organic Mexican Coatepec beans roasted to our specifications by Notting Hill Coffee Roastery in Lewes, DE.

Crushed with Jakebra. Nice brew. Coffee is the initial hit in the nose and the flavor. But it’s not overly done and it’s nicely balanced. Pretty good.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a very small reddish brown head. Aroma is of sweet burnt wood. Taste is very woody with a hint of coffee and chocolate. Not bad... but definitely not my first choice.

Pours a pitch black with a ring of foam. Earthy musty sweet aroma. Tastes exactly as I had expected (and hoped ) it would taste: sweet dark malt, earthy herbal notes, light toastiness, not a lot of licorice happening, but a definite whack of coffee. Oaty thick & creamy body, decent carb. Very, very quaffable. Yum!

This black ale poured with a bubbly tan head that slowly dissipated. There is a coffee aroma and the flavor is also coffee with some licorice and a slightly bitter dry finish.
