Commercial Description:
Chicory Stout is a rich, dark beer made with a touch of roasted chicory, organic Mexican coffee, St. John's Wort, and licorice root. It is brewed with roast barley, crystal malt and oats and hopped just right with Glacier hops. We use fair trade Organic Mexican Coatepec beans roasted to our specifications by Notting Hill Coffee Roastery in Lewes, DE.

Maybe the lightest color stout I have ever poured. Not much of a head. But a very inviting aroma of rich malts. Coffee with a touch of vanilla. The flavor is very vairied. Thick up front, lots of roasted malts, vanilla and a hint of spicyness. And also very watery on the back end and the even more spicy. finishs very subtle and softly. Once again DFH creates something just a little left of center that is done very well.

draft @ redlight redlight. Rich coffee and chocolate on the nose, very earthy, spicy, with some vanilla on the nose. Pours black with a tan head. Smooth dark malts, coffee, chocolate, creamy vanilla, very smooth and spicy hops. Very good dark session beer!

Nice lower ABV stout. Dark clear brown pour with thin yellow-tan head. Roasted barley, caramel, coffee, and slight anise on the nose and palate. Slight hops and sweet coffee added on the palate. Thin finish, as I guess should be expected in a lower ABV stout. Would be interested in a slightly stronger version of this.

A deep brown pour with a very small tan head that quickly fades to foam around the edge of the glass. Smells like mocha coffee. Initial taste is of coffee with a hint of chocolate, fading to roasted hops. Fairly thin for a stout, with little carbonation and no lingering taste. A very tasty beer.

Bottle. Pours deep brown with a thin creamy head. Chocolate and coffee in the nose. Flavor is slighly bitter with coffee and bar mocha, followed by a slight hop presence with roasted malts. Very sticky mouthfeel, not much carbonation. Decent.

Poured black with a medium-tan head. I’m not sure why the bottle says bone-white head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate malts. Taste is slightly bitter at first with a strong flavor of coffee. Taste transitions to a smooth chocolaty finish. Finish is sweeter than expected with notes of fruit.
