Commercial Description:
Chicory Stout is a rich, dark beer made with a touch of roasted chicory, organic Mexican coffee, St. John's Wort, and licorice root. It is brewed with roast barley, crystal malt and oats and hopped just right with Glacier hops. Poured black with a medium-tan head. I’m not sure why the bottle says bone-white head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate malts. Taste is slightly bitter at first with a strong flavor of coffee. Taste transitions to a smooth chocolaty finish. Finish is sweeter than expected with notes of fruit.

Dark brown pour, nice head leaving ring on glass. Deep mocha aromas with smoked out woody character. Lightly gingery herbed out quality with a smoked meat taste which lingers with a toasty salami quality. A nicely smoked out stout which has a deepening sense of character as the glass empties.

Pours a nice deep black, thin tan head. A huge coffee aroma and flavor. Very nice clean finish, but all coffee in this stout.

probably the finest stout i’ve ever tasted. beautiful pour, w/a gorgeous, thick head that leaves quite a bit of lacing. dark brown, thick, the perfect balance of smokey and sweet. a lot of coffee going on. finishes w/a nice bitterness.

12oz bottle from Total Wine (Tampa, FL). Pours a hazy dark brown to black with reddish highlights. One finger tan head settles slowly and laces the glass. Aroma is roasted and malty with notes of dark chocolate, ripe dark fruit, coffee, molasses, brown sugar. Flavor is roasted and malty as well with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, ripe dark fruit and vanilla. Generally creamy mouthfeel with a roasted and malty finish.

Surprised this is listed as just ’stout’ since its very dry, and fully qualifies as a ’dry stout.’ Pours black with "bone white head" as the bottle says. Flavor is very roasty and malty. Notes of coffee, chocolate, prunes and malt. Nice tongue-crunching effects of the hoppage in this one. DFH scores again!

Fresh bottling. Dark brown color with a small and quickly diminishing white foam. Not bottle conditioned. Flavor and aroma are very similar, both lacking in elements besides coffee. I know it’s a 5% stout, but come on. This beer has so malt depth and no body. Very dry and off balance.

12 oz bottle: Aroma is roasted malts and brown sugar. Some sweetness from chocolate and bitterness from coffee. Pours black but not like tar. Head is large at first but dissapates to a smaller lacing. Mouthfeel is slightly thick with an oily finish. Carbonation is non-existant. Flavor is roasted with some coffee notes, broen sugar is not noticable in the flavor. Some sweetness but the robust flavors from the coffee and roasted malts win out. Quite drinkable and enjoyable. I could actually seek this out again.
