Pours a very dark molasses like brownish black with a tan head. Aroma of dark roasted coffee, chocolate, and chewing tobacco. Very bitter finish. Decent roasted malt flavor. Interesting nose of roasted wood and coffee. Full of roasted body with a lot of espresso character. A little chocolate on the finish. The texture is thin and creamy throughout. Roasted wood taste with roasted coffee finish. The roasted flavors are good but it’s too one dimensional overall. Nice coffee aroma, superb motor oil color and thick! Coffee taste a little overpowering, but the lovely, creamy mouthfeel makes up for it. If you get the chance, combine it with 90 min IPA for the world’s best black and tan LeMunche (66), Orland Park, Illinois, USA

Not sure if I’ll ever have a beer from them that really wow’s me. The beer pours out black in color with a faint, thin white head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee but all at too subtle levels for my personal enjoyment. Flavor was nearly on par with the nose...chocolate and coffee. No complexity, no deep character of either the chocolate or coffee. Taste is nearly uneventful. FleeVT (40), Boca Raton, Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 17, 2008 12oz. brown bottle with born on date poured into a pint glass. Extremely dark with almost no light penetration. Looks like flat rootbeer in a mug. Nice tan thick head. On the nose, chocolate malty sweetness but no chicory to speak of. Mildly smoky as the beer warms. Mild malts and coffee oils on the palate. The coffee flavor lingers and there is a light chicory taste. Everything is real subdued, nothing to write home about.
Very little carbonation, a medium body, and creamy. I think it could use a bit more carbonation as it really lacks punch. A slow drinker and just OK. There are better stouts; it just felt soft.
