Commercial Description:
Chicory Stout is a rich, dark beer made with a touch of roasted chicory, organic Mexican coffee, St. John's Wort, and licorice root. It is brewed with roast barley, crystal malt and oats and hopped just right with Glacier hops. The mexican coffee makes this brew. Dogfish continues to impress me with their balance of flavors. They are creating a class of their own. Steady head, great taste, lasting impression, buy more Dogfish.

Served cold from a 12 oz. bottle. Although I am not drinking this currently, I’ve consumed enough to know pretty well how to comment on it. Pours dark brown, with a short-lived tan-colored head. Aroma is richly chocolate, coffee and smoke. Certainly not the best stout I’ve ever tasted, but it’s Dogfish Head so there is a distinctly unique flavor to it. And that flavor is chocolate, coffee, and roasted wood. The finish has only the slightest hint of hop bitterness. Overall a fine stout.

Very rich. The Chicory plays extremely well with the roasted barley flavor. Wonderful after dinner beer if you don’t need to coffee.

On draft at the DFH Alehouse in Falls Church. Dark brown, strong roasted coffee taste followed by a sweet caramelly finish. I really like the fact that it has St. John’s Wort in it for an even stronger feeling of "well-being."

A very smoked filled, roasted coffee aroma that I wouldn’t mind waking up to in the morning...and then there are it’s other attributes. Unfortunately, they just don’t live up to the nose. Deep brown with copper tones and a small tan head, this beers flavors of chocolate, coffee, and wood just aren’t that enjoyable. Hmm.

Strong coffee roasted flavor. Not overly hoppy or malty, just a solid easy drinking beer.

Pours dark brown color with hints of smoke, toffee, coffee, and chocolate in the smell. A sweet smoky taste with a bit of coffee/toffee too, ends smooth with a smokey aftertase of hicory and nuts.
