Commercial Description:
Chicory Stout is a rich, dark beer made with a touch of roasted chicory, organic Mexican coffee, St. John's Wort, and licorice root. It is brewed with roast barley, crystal malt and oats and hopped just right with Glacier hops. We use fair trade Organic Mexican Coatepec beans roasted to our specifications by Notting Hill Coffee Roastery in Lewes, DE.

Draft at Firewaters. Pours a deep brown with a small light beige head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. Sweet malty flavor with lots of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Good beer but nothing special.

Just OK. Better than the KONA porter I had which also had hints of coffee but still not great. Could have poured darker with better head. Aroma barely noticable but decent taste and finish. Flavor of dark malts, coffee and barley. Worth a try but it’s no 90min IPA.

Bottle. Black color, small brown head. Milky, malty aroma with cocoa and chocolate. Malty chocolate flavor, some licorice, some hops, milky notes and a finish with bitter chocolate.

Good lookin stout. Righteous aroma, whopping front end of coffee/roasted malts with a nice subtle folow up of chocolate AND vanilla WTF? Liquid Silk!!!! This stuff is good. Nice to have a beer that’s not really over the top in alcohol and is solid in style.

Bottle. Pours a dark black with faint brown head. Aroma is roasty and full of coffee. Flavor is roasty as hell with loads of coffee and hints of cocoa powder. Slight herbal notes along with some light cola but mostly powdered chocolate and coffee. A smooth and kind of powdery mouthfeel with medium body. Interesting carbonation, comes in late in the game. Finish is dry and long. Good flavors, I don’t see anything wrong with this one however I doubt I’ll get anymore.

12 oz bottle. With Dog Head’s reputation for quality brew, I was a bit disappointed with this. I’m a huge stout lover and this seemed a bit average to me. Small brown head, a bit of a smokey flavor but nothing that really distinguished it from other higher end stouts. I did get a sixer and maybe I’ll read more into it with further drinking.
