Commercial Description:
Chicory Stout is a rich, dark beer made with a touch of roasted chicory, organic Mexican coffee, St. John's Wort, and licorice root. It is brewed with roast barley, crystal malt and oats and hopped just right with Glacier hops. We use fair trade Organic Mexican Coatepec beans roasted to our specifications by Notting Hill Coffee Roastery in Lewes, DE.

Black with a tan head. Taste is a wonderful balance of sweet roasted coffee flavor with some underpinning bitterness. A nicely put together stout.

Bottle. 12 fl. oz. A black beer with rocky, tan head. Dominant chocolate aroma with roasted coffee beans. Medium body with a soft texture and a slightly dry finish. Flavor is bittersweet dark chocolate. The roasted bitterness lingers nicely in the aftertaste. Good stuff.

bottle poured into a snifter has a dark brown with some red color as it is held to a light. carbination seems to come off soft leaving a light ring of tan foam on the glass and some lace like patterns on the surface. aroma has a nice roasted coffee bean, chocolate malt, caramel, and some moss. fairly good looking stout in the glass. mouth feel is medium with a certain creamy texture. flavor hits smooth with the chocolate malt and coffee roast hitting it off real well together. continues smooth with a lighter body and alcohol than i would have expected from dogfish who usually goes so big. really a nice brew without too much sweetness really focusing on the coffee roast with the chocolate keeping it in check. could be a bigger beer for sure but really nice as it is.

12-oz. Pours black with a thick, bubbly tan head. Leaves plenty of lace, and takes its time settling down, too. Big roasty, coffee, sludgey, tarry nose. Too dry and pungent for my taste--I either like things dialed back a bit or at least possessed of some sweetness to soften the blow. It’s not like this beer is super cold, either--if there were sweet notes, they’d be showing themselves. Body’s on the high side of medium, with some soft and woolly carb to make sure the beer announces itself with authority. Big roasty, tarry, coffee mess on the mid-palate. It’s not that the flavors aren’t well-considered together, it’s just the dryness of the mid-palate combined with an acetic quality really makes for a highly absorbent quaff...and that’s pretty much the opposite of what you’re looking for in a beer. Well, of what *i* look for, anyway. Not bad, not broken, just far from my tastes.

Phenomenal stout. Lot’s of coffee flavor, as well as chocolate, and other complexities hard to distinguish. It has a nice "toasted" flavor. Definitely another good Dogfish Head Brew, would buy again.

dark brown appearance with tan head. nose of roasted malt and coffee. flavor is of crystal, roasted, chocolate malt with a huge coffee flavor. a nice beer that is very flavorful, could possibly benefit from more alcohol to add some complexity that is lacking

on tap @ papago... nice black pour with a fluffy tan head that leaves lots of lacing spotted in the glass. faint aroma of coffee, chocolate and roasted grains. wife says it smells like my beard after drinking coffee... flavor is the same with some woodiness and a light acidic finish. aftertaste has some lingering woody coffee that IMO is the best thing about this brew. light body with a somewhat creamy texture.

rich dark pour with good brown had adn decent lacing from a 12 oz bottle, this stout boasts some exotic ingredients like Mexican coatpec beans and licorice root but the important thing to note is that the don’t muddle the overal product. not too roasted, not too sweet. Just a very pleasent, drinkable stout. well done.
