Commercial Description:
Chicory Stout is a rich, dark beer made with a touch of roasted chicory, organic Mexican coffee, St. John's Wort, and licorice root. It is brewed with roast barley, crystal malt and oats and hopped just right with Glacier hops. We use fair trade Organic Mexican Coatepec beans roasted to our specifications by Notting Hill Coffee Roastery in Lewes, DE.

12 oz bottle. Pours black with a thin tan head. No lasting lace. Nose was burnt coffee and malt. Palette was a bit thin and dry. Flavor was of strong coffee and roasted malt. Some slightly sweet chocolate flavors. Slight touch of hops for balance.

Aroma is coffee, toast, and malt. Flovor is coffee and dark malt with a nice roasted bitterness. Mouth feel is kind of thin, but not bad. Not my favorite, but its easy to drink and I would happily drink it again.

Bottle from Canals in Lumberton.Black pour with thin tan head. Coffee and roasted malt aromas. Toasted malt and mild coffee tastes with a dry nutty finish. Body is a little thin but not horrible and while this isn’t my favorite stout it really does go down smooth. I enjoyed it.

The dark brown body was capped by a three finger thick head. The smell was coffee like as expected, since chicory is often used as a filler in coffee. The taste was much different than the smell suggested. There was a roasty bitterness here, but it was quite subdued, and was matched by a chocolate sweetness. Quite light on the palette for the style, and soft in texture. Easy drinking and approachable, but had it been a little stronger, it would have been far more memorable.

12 oz, bottled 11/18/07. Small, but enduring head atop an opaque black body. Aroma is scorched toffee, char, and coffee. Nice balance between dry and sweet with flavors of espresso (with slight cream), char, dry oats, molasses and prickly, metallic herbs. Medium body is mostly smooth and has some nice tingle, but foams up a bit much at the finish.

Dark almost black color with a medium head. Smell of coffee and malt. Is this a Porter? :) Good coffee taste, and now that I read the description, I can taste the licorice. Slightly thin texture however a thick malt finish.

Thick tan head with a virtually black body. Malty smell with roasty things in there. And something I couldn’t put my finger on in both the aroma and in the taste, probably the chicory. Has a taste of roasted malts with some smokiness. Coffee taste is there. Slightly bitter. Good, but not really great.
