Commercial Description:
Chicory Stout is a rich, dark beer made with a touch of roasted chicory, organic Mexican coffee, St. John's Wort, and licorice root. It is brewed with roast barley, crystal malt and oats and hopped just right with Glacier hops. We use fair trade Organic Mexican Coatepec beans roasted to our specifications by Notting Hill Coffee Roastery in Lewes, DE.

As with all Dogfishead beers, one can taste the hops. A nice stout as a part of a Black and Tan combo from the Gaithersburg Alehouse, this stout has a full malt backing that saturates the palate as full-bodied, yet continues to nip at the tip with in the traditional Dogfishead style. Nice.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear black color with a sizeable tan head. The aroma is light coffee, milk chocolate, and licorice. The flavor is similar to the aroma. There is additional sweetness from ? (molasses perhaps). The coffee appears a little stronger in the finish. This is on the lighter side of being medium bodied. A bit of a disappointment.

Small head, dark color. There’s some coffee notes in the smell, but very little. Pretty muted overall. Taste is of watery coffee and malts. Too thin for my liking.

Aroma of scotch. Dark brown with no head just some brown foam. Slightly sweet slightly biter taste. Finishes mildly watery.

Strong dark aroma of almost coffee. Opaque brown/black color with a head that ringed rapidly. Medium bodied at least. Creamy carbonation. A coffee flavor with some bitter and strange veg notes. Arguably some smokiness. Dark roasted sweet malt, and some balancing bitter. The finish is dry and coffee like. Overall it is tasty, and about as refreshing as a stout could possibly be.

Pours a very dark brown colour with small head. Aroma of roasted coffee brings in the initial presence with chocolate finishing the notes. Initial taste is slight chocolate, roasted coffee, smokey malts touching apon bitter hops with the mild finish. Carbonation is a perfect match. Interesting stout indeed.

Black, tiny brown head immediately fades to nada.Roasty alc nose.Light roast, sweet, hint of coffee. Disappointing, thin. Nothing like I expected, why bother. The head dissipated very quickly, leaving a flat lifeless beer.

Very deep brown with a small, dark tan head. Sweet coffee malts, molasses, and chocolate. Flavors of bittersweet chocolate, coffee, some grassy hops, and roasted malts. Sorta bitter ending, though not very lasting. Medium, smooth body. Not a "look what I can do," type of stout; just solid. Good and easy drinking.
