Similar flavor - lots of strong coffee without being overpowering. I found the palate to be a little lighter than I was expecting, but still very drinkable. I would definitely reach for this beer again if given the chance.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 3, 2010 Pours pitch black. Bit of an espresso foam. Big coffee and malty notes. Followed by a little chocolate taste. Carbonation gives it almost a soda style consistency. Also a little bit of chicory bitterness sneaks in. KyotoLefty (1501), Kyoto, Japan
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 2, 2010 Pitch black, with just a bit of tan lacing. Roasty aroma of coffee (chicory?), licorice, and dark chocolate. Slightly creamy, with some dried fruits as well. Very rich and complex cereals. Roasted flavor of coffee, cocoa, grains. A bit of fruit, but mainly very dry roasted. Finish is bone dry and roasty. With a touch of hops. Body is very light, which is refreshing but may be a bit of a fault, though it is very smooth-oats? A pretty great beer, though.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 24, 2009 This is one smooth dude. Silky texture from an ink black brew with a cappucino coloured head that fades to a thin layer and just hangs out. Big coffee flavour with hints of vanilla, hints of wood smoke, and mild hop bitterness. The aroma improves as it warms but still is less impressive than other Dogfish Libations. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 24, 2009 Bottle marked that it was made on 10/09/09. Pours with a near black body and a thick, tan head. Aroma of roast/coffee, smoke, chocolate, spice, vanilla and anise. Taste is a bit spicy, coffee, slightly vegital/grassy (think endive), and some anise. Bubbly to creamy effervescence. wilderthanyou (423), Guelph, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 23, 2009 Pours as you would expect a super dark brown with a shortly lived khaki brown. Aroma is pleasantly complex, probably the roastiest i’ve experienced, lots of coffee, chicory, chocolate. The flavour is really decent, coffee, bakers chocolate, chicory, slight dry oakiness, ends on a strawberries dipped in dark chocolate note.....seriously. A little thin on the tongue for a stout, but in a way I feel like it kinda works in this beers favor. Well played dogfish head, you have yet to dissapoint me. JoeMurphy (33), Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 23, 2009 My taste runs to drier stouts than this, but for a richer stout, this is pretty good. I found it well balanced. I particularly liked it as coffee stouts go - I’ve frequently been disappointed by them, but this one had the pleasant notes of coffee and baker’s chocolate without overwhelming the core taste of stout.
