Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 28, 2007 Quite authentic Berliner weisse outside the peaches. A small celery note accompanies the obvious, crisp tartness. Surprisingly not too lactic, but expressive wheat. Upon smelling though, peaches really dominate in a pretty juicy and pure fashion. In mouth, it feels more like a sorbet, very refreshing. Brief and quite dry finish after a sweetish introduction. Very competently brewed and a tremendous effort. hopslovin (180), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Oct 26, 2007 Clear golden pour with white head. Continuous cascade. Looks like champagne. Fruit and wheat on the nose with a hint of mustiness. Tingling carbonation on the palate. Sweet fruit flavors. Dry finish. This beer could be a sweet wine if it were not for the carbonation. Worth the experience. Jine (889), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Oct 26, 2007 10.24.07 bottle. I love berliner weisse style brews, and I really did like this one by DFH. However, apparently this was fermented with peaches? I didn’t detect any. Still a good b-weisse JoeinUccle (902), Brussels, Belgium Oct 25, 2007 Bottle. Thanks to turdferguson for throwing this into a trade way back when. The white head is big and almost silky. Faint peach and funk aroma. Flavor’s light, funky, fruity. It’s a unique taste that won’t appeal to everyone. I’m intrigued, but does it taste good? Can’t make up my mind. Feels lively but a bit thin, not quite watery. Somehow manages to be both watery and dry. Unique, interesting, refreshing. Delicious? I guess not. riversideAK (2648), Shoreline, Washington, USA Oct 22, 2007 Cloudy light yellow orange. Aroma of wheat with subtle tartness and peach. Super tart lemon citrus flavor. Very carbonated. Subtle peach softness in trace amounts. Light, dry, and tart. layyze (28), Durham, North Carolina, USA Oct 22, 2007 I’m usually a fan of light fruit beers during the summer, but I was somewhat disappointed with this one. Slightly fruity and sour aroma. Light color, good carbonation. Some notes of peach, but most notable is the acidic sourness. I liked it, but didn’t love it like other DFH entries. Ernest (4481), Boulder, Colorado, USA Oct 20, 2007 Bottle. Head is initially small, fizzy, white, fully diminishing. Body is hazy light yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with light notes of peach, apple peel, lemon peel. Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Light body, watery texture, lively/fizzy carbonation, lightly astringent. Exceptionally refreshing, with a bold acidic bite. Not as puckering as Schultheiss, but a lot better than expected. IMHO, the peaches weren’t really needed in this beer, but even so this blows the doors off of the Berliners I’ve tried from Southampton, Nodding Head, and Iron Hill. One of the best things to come out of DFH in a long time. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA Oct 19, 2007 Departing the 12 ounce brown bottle it appears nontranslucent pale yellow with a creamy white head that evaporates slowly and the lace forms an even coating on the glass. Nose has a pleasant fruity aroma, with hints of malt and a little yeast, quite appealing. Start has a light to moderate malt presence, with the top light to medium in feel, sweet at the front, with a pleasant bit of tanginess. Finish is moderately acidic, a touch of hops noticeable, sweet to the end with a dry and lingering aftertaste, a pleasant change from my over the top hop and alcohol laden beers.
