7/13/2007: Dogfish Head Festina Pêche pours a cloudy, pale yellow color. There is ample carbonation and a foamy white head that leaves some ribbon-like lacing. The aroma has delicate, ripe peaches mingled with some slightly sour wheat maltiness. The flavor begins with naturally sweet peach, then the wheat become more noticeable, and finally some tartness and floral notes towards the finish. The peach aroma and flavor fades away more and more after each drink and after awhile it tastes nearly like a non-fruited Berliner Wiesse. However, step away for a moment and come back and then the peach is apparent again. This is a light beer that is crisp and refreshing. It feels like bubbly champagne in the mouth. I had originally picked this up for my wife and she didn’t think that it was too bad. I have now had four different Berliner Weisse style beers, and I have found that I really enjoy this obscure style. Beers of this style are quite unique and very interesting. I’m glad that more and more brewers are resurrecting the Berliner Weisse style!

10/13/2008: Dogfish Head Festina Pêche has a subtle aroma of peaches and is slightly yeasty. The color is pale marigold. It is cloudy, highly carbonated, and has a whipped white head that is long lasting. The light flavor has tart peaches with a squeeze of lemon juice in it. This beer is light-bodied, refreshing, and lively on the palate, but it doesn’t come across as overcarbonated. Overall this beer is similar to a dry white wine with peaches and a good level of tartness. This beer is still quite tasty!

12 oz bottle. Hazy straw color. Sweetish and peachy aroma with notes of minerals and tobacco. Wheaty, acidic, tart and peachy flavor with notes of watermelon.

Sampled this on tap at Capital Alehouse Innsbrook and in bottle this past week. Hazy very pale yellow appearance, nice head, attractive. Aroma of smooth wheat, with a touch of peach that was more apparent in the draft version. Flavor was a mix of wheat, again not grainy, tartness, a touch of peach, creamy yeast, and a dry finish. Well balanced. Peach more apparent on draft, it was more of a hint in the bottled form. Refreshing and quite enjoyable, one of the better drinking experimental brews from DFH in recent memmory. Nice. Really nice.

12 ounce bottle purchased at the Davis Food Co-Op. Aroma is tart with some acidic notes and some barnyard funkiness. Some brett seems to be present. A little lemony aroma is also in there. Decent. Transparent pale golden body with a large, fluffy white head present. Starts with a sharp, tart lemony acidity. Becomes a little malty in the middle with some milky, doughy, biscuit flavors. A little more lemon flavor present to finish. This is actually pretty good and quite enjoyable.

20090114 12oz bottle, dozens of them. I’ve gone through many cases of this stuff and yet have never rated it. Huh. Well, simply put it’s a pleasantly tart, mildly fruity session beer. the funk is there, but subdued with notes of barnyard countered by light peachy sweetness. DFH’s assessment that this beer is comparable to pinot grigio is well said. Definitely more carbonated than most berliner weisse beers I have had, but that adds to its drinkability and compatibility with food. It is welcome anytime, but super refreshing and quenching.

Bottle. Aroma a bit of peach jolly rancher combined with cough syrup, perhaps a touch or coriander. Very cloudy pale yellow with a clingy but short white head. Crisp, carbonic medium body, sticky and slightly metallic. Taste is mildly sour, slightly off, acidic and mildly medicinal. Not really having a good time with this one. Aftertaste is citric lemon, acidic, and slightly bready. This beer is massively overrated.

Draught at the brewpub in Rehoboth Beach with my Griffin Avenue crew. Lightly hazy, pale straw body with a silky, snow white head. Aroma of both fresh cut and canned peaches. Syrupy impression in the nose. Medium sweet flavor with good fruit character and very pleasant tartness. Nice wheat and subtle hay-like funk notes. Very well integrated. This is a really nice, creative interpretation of a Berliner Weisse.
