smooth for 18 percent. berry flavors. tastes like a strong slightly syrupy lambic. somewhat medicinal. i’d split a bottle to sip with some friends but it would be to much to consume alone.

2009-01-24. Murky orange amber body with a modest off-white head. (3+) Very fruity aroma, notes of strawberry/raspberry seeds. Touch of yeast. Flavour is a lot of the same berry seed character and is a bit strange. Generic fruit, alcohol is warming, and is a bit rough overall to be honest. Smooth medium to full bodied palate. Alcohol is a bit harsh at times but not really as strong as it could be at 18%. Interesting with nice highlights, but a bit tough to drink overall - Did not care for it. Bottle at Coles Rare Beer Fest, Buffalo

Coles Rare Beer Festival , Appearance: murky amber with light brown hints, white top. 3+ Aroma: sweet candy raspberry sweetness , followed by potent alcohol backing. Flavor/Palate: strong alcoholic , drying front. Fruity berry , sugar empowered brew. Reminded me of TUR Wino of ole Poland circa early 90s/ Kick ass dangerous, iron liver members only. Harsh alcoholic strong ale. F-7-

Bottle. Poured a hazy carmel color with very little head. Smells strongly of rasberries. Taste very bitter and very strong in the booze area.

Bottled 11/12/06. Pours a very tick, murky, melted caramel-copper color with a very thin head and reminds me of muddy water where I would go to catch 20lb catfish. Aroma is strong of raspberries and alcohol. Flavor is very thick, heavy and overbearing of raspberry. Light malt taste does come threw but mostly adds to the density of the beer. Alcohol flavor is VERY heavy throughout the beer. Mouth feel is really heavy with a low, fine carbonation that makes it feel almost like a dense soup instead of a beer. In fact, the beer is so thick that anything in it is in a suspended animation state and kinda hovers there. Overall the flavor of the raspberries and alcohol are too overpowering and make a beer I hope to never have again.

On tap at The Spot in Bethel. Poured a murky amber with fizzy white head. Aroma of thick and cloyingly sweet raspberry purée with alcohol notes and a touch of brown sugar. Flavor is first of harshly metallic and ashen alcohol, like chewing on an ashtray, followed by a shockingly artificial tasting raspberry jam flavor. Hurts to swallow. A disgusting alcoholic mess with no artisansl qualities whatsoever. DFH should have scrapped this one, I think.

75cl bottle from Willow Bend Liquors (Tampa, FL). 2007 vintage. Pours a murky dark caramel color with virtually no head. Aroma is sweet and fruity with notes of brandy, overripe berries, sweet grapes, ripe fresh fruit. Flavor is also sweet and fruity with notes of ripe raspberries and fresh fruit, some honey and caramel sweetness and malt. Strong phenol notes enter mid-swallow and overpower the finish, providing a somewhat medicinal note. Generally medium body with a strong alcohol finish that leaves our throats burning from the ETOH. Interesting beer in small does. At 18% ABV, it tastes every percent of it.

25 oz bottle, via SoLan, bottled 11/05, consumed ~12/08. Pours a mostly clear orange copper body with just a few small floaties. Very fizzy off-white head that completely vanished. Nice sweet raspberry and caramel malt nose with surprisingly little alcohol. Pretty alcoholic on the flavor, but it’s not as overbearing as I thought it was going to be. Heavy toffee and caramel with raspberry syrup, reminds me of a good candy. Finishes a bit like cough syrup though because of all the alcohol. Mouthfeel is full and thick, but not especially cloying or sticky. Nice fizzy, slightly prickly, carbonation that cut the heaviness pretty well. Overall, not nearly as bad or overbearing as I was expecting from this, it was actually pretty enjoyable. Maybe the age had something to do with that though?
