750 ml bottle shared while in line at Red Poppy release. Nice aromas of fruit and raspberry. Some malty sweetness too. Flavor was much more malty with definite alcohol. Raspberries came in at the beginning and the end. Nice little aftertaste of sweet sugary raspberries. An interesting brew.

Pretty interesting to try an 18% beer. Tried in line for the Red Poppy Release. Aroma punches you in the face. Burns your nose and throat long after tasting. Sweet and malty. Amber color. Heavy body.

Thanks to fordest for sharing this at the Lost Abbey Red Poppy release. Not as sour as I expected. Very nice though.

The bottle I got was bottled in July 2007. Pours a cloudy light reddish brown with a little head. Has a boozy smell similar to 120minute IPA, with a faint hint of raspberry. Taste is hot, boozy, raspberry, with nice carbonation. You get a nice carmel with warm bourbon kick in the nuts (somewhat like young DFH barleywine) at the end, but if you like the taste of booze then consider it a bonus. This is a very "BIG" beer, and a raspberry "BIG" beer at that which puts it in a category of it’s own. There are many other fruit beers which will tantalize your palate and beat this in a blind taste test, but considering everything this brew deserves some respect.

Horrible. If I didn’t know what ethyl acetate smelled like maybe I might rate it somewhat higher, but the nasty EtoAc smell ruined this beer. I’m shocked that the people at DFH thought this was acceptable .. it is vile. I’m beginning to realize there is a chasm between extreme beer and extremely good beer. There were some nice raspberry flavors in here hiding themselves beneath the nail polish, but they where nowhere near enough to cover up the defect. Five people tried this, nobody could drink it .. ended up pouring most of the bottle down the drain.

this beer was labed Feb. 06. Nearly two years old. It had a bite that was insane. Alcohol was the most prevelent flavor. The aroma was very nice, but the finish was just plain fire. Big bonus points for 18% !!!!!

When I first took a whiff of this beer, it reminded me of the Quelque Chose. Once I took a sip, it was WAY better. Although I am not a fan of the fruit beers, this one was very good for me! I wish there were a little more raspberries in the mix. I felt like it should have been over the top with raspberries. I do believe the strong alcohol content really helps this beer out a lot even though it is not super prominent like most beers of this abv. Get one and enjoy! Cheers!

Poured from a 750ml bottle (bottled on 11/13/06) and served in a tulip. This beer poured a reddish/brown hue with a short-lived, light tan head. No lace. The aroma of the beer was made up of alcohol-soaked rasperries, mild biscuit, and a touch of very sugary caramel. The flavor included tart, hot, alcoholic rasperry notes. Not much else was able to sneek out from underneath the heavy booze. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and slick, with very mild carbonation. Fun to try once...that’s about it.
