Raspberries excrete kernels, and there’s a fruity cream cheese danish underbelly to the aroma as well. Elderberry biscuits, cotton gins and seltzer line the nostrils with a minute sense of accomplishment. Thick juice rolls into the mouth, with raspberry chambourd flavors and a daunting, warming and harsh palate backslap. Chewy ooze creates a raspberry cheesecake custard feel, partnered well with the pieces of graham amidst buttercream and fruit swirls. It’s another DFH beer that hides its alcohol strength fairly well. There’s some sharp stopping power, but it’s not too triumphantly overdone. Some almond butter and flambé sauce meet cooking sherry on the cusps of each sip. Tongue numbing and sticky, syrupy, gummy drippings keep the mouth totally closed in the end. Hot pincers enact at the tongue’s tips long after the last sip. Thanks for the bottle, tpkenned! Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 28, 2006 This was one interesting beer. A big raspberry aroma with some alcohol showing. The flavor is sweet and warming with raspberries and not much else going on. It was almost brandy like in character. The alcohol is not very noticeable. Dont play around with this stuff you’ll be on the floor. Rballs01 (264), Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/20 | Aug 25, 2006 Took this 750 down alone. Poured a dark yellow-copper. Slight bubbly carbonation with a thin flim at the top. Tasted like a bitter-sweet wine. More of a dessert drink. Cherries were very subtle but present. However, It was delicious and unique. Don’t expect a full blown cherry experience. Add this one to the list of DFH’s secret recipe winners! Will we see this one again? whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 24, 2006 Solo mission with a full 750 ml. Rich golden body with streaming jets of carbonation and an effervescent white head that is slow to recede. Smells like tart raspberries, light grass, and must. The first sip delivers a startling kick of alcohol. Has concentrated raspberry-flavored cider notes and lingering syrupy sweetness. An odd phenolic astringency leaves a long-lasting bitterness that dominates the flavor and aftertaste, while sugary sweetness with medium-low viscosity coats the palate, and warm alcoholic heat occupies the belly. Fails to achieve anything special.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 23, 2006 Bottled at ZBF 06. Pours a clear dark red, with a small white head. Aroma is fruity raspberry, sweet, and somewhat alcoholic. Taste is sweet raspberries, slightly spicy. A bit heavyhanded, but still good. Numenor (869), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 8, 2006 Nice ruby body with a very light white head. A light muskiness in the aroma, some sweetness as well. Raspberry and hops are very evident along with some very light malts. Dry and sweet ending. presario (2982), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 7, 2006 Very surprised at the lite copper colour. Thin but lasting head bubbles up every time the glass is touched. Big raspberry flavour with notes of sugar and alcohol in deep. Tickles the nostrils. Flavour is alcohol and tart raspberries. More alcohol and liqueur than beer. A tart sipper. Not as sweet or fruit flavoured as expected. Phatz (225), Paradise, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 3, 2006 Hmm? I have been searching for this for 4 months. When I finally found the ’holy grail’ I have been searching for I paid $20 for one bottle. Hundreds of dollars/time hours later I EXPECTED to be freakin BLOWN AWAY! I was NOT! Does this mean I was disappointed? I don’t know. I guess so. Maybe I was only disappointed because of all the hype this beer received as the ’strongest fruit beer in the world’. It was good but I am afraid it did not live up to all that hype.
The beer was an attractive color, but certainly more clear than I expected. It was quite coppery. A careful pour yielded a very small head. The smell was very yeasty. The taste was quite bready, a bit sour/tart, and definitely subtle raspberry. I was expecting more raspberry and less yeast. A bit of the 18% ABV shows through but remarkably little alcohol for the high ABV. So this is a pleasant drinkable beer but for the price and size of it... I was expecting quite a bit more. Bummer!
Hope this is helpful.
Cheers!
