This one has a different odor, less specific to one Hallertau hops, more of a general Budvar on steroids. Looks great in the glass—small streams of bubbles rising through the center of a pure gold body, spongy head that dissolves to slight lace—gotta give that a 5. Taste is, of course, very hoppy, but we don’t normally get this much hop power from German cones. Peppery foretaste, leaving a slight burn on my lip. Like to taste all that pilsner malt; frankly it could use more to bear up against the hops. Quite a bit of it goes down before you even notice the alcohol. I’ve had a lot of diesel fuel that was categorized as "European Strong Lager;" any more of this along with the S.A. and we may need a whole new set of Impy styles. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 10, 2007 Bottle. Pours a lovely clear gold with a small white head. Aroma is pepper and hops. Taste is heavy pepper and hop up front, dissolving into a hoppy aftertaste that reminds me of an IPA (not surprising since Dogfish makes such great IPA’s). Alcohol somewhat noticeable, but did not take away from the overall experience. A great, refreshing brew. Acknud (784), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Dec 9, 2007 Not sure what this was but it was not what I expected. Good golden pour. Peppery aroma and taste that finished more sour than I anticipated. Alcohol taste is prominent. bigrond (1052), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 9, 2007 alcohol content was nice. but that was about it. FLavor was all alcohol and a little hops. They advertise this as a pilsner, but it is a far cry from that. Maybe it’s a hybrid between a barley wine and a pale lager. Not a good one for dogfish head. brewandstew (11), Salisbury, Maryland, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 7, 2007 12oz bottle, pours a rich gold with a medium head. This is a pils with the attitude of an IIPA. Citrus, grassy, and sweet; very balanced malt and hops flavours. A good brew indeed! JoeMcPhee (5010), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 5, 2007 pale golden beer with a thick head, white and fluffy. Aroma is lightly hoppy with some light zestiness, light noble hop aroma. Some honeyish malts and a touch of light earthiness. Flavour is very fruity and zesty with a heavy peppery, alcoholic aroma. Hops have faded quite a bit and the beer (while still well-hopped) is heading south. It’s okay, but it’s not one of the better examples of this style. clong83 (243), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 2, 2007 I was expecting better from this one, as Dogfish is one of my favorite breweries. Golden color and a nice floral and earthy aroma. Pretty thick texture, and a flavor of earthy hops and a twinge of fruitiness. Alcohol comes through, but it’s not overpowering. Nice clean finish. Still, the flavors were a little flat to me, and the beer seemed to lack complexity. The malty sweet texture was too strong. A good beer, I just had higher expectations. blklab2007 (968), Connecticut, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 2, 2007 bottle poured a golden color with lively carbination and a thin head on the top. aroma is very mild, malt, light hops, and alcohol. flavor has more to offer than the smell, smooth malt body somewhat creamy, good bite from the noble hops, finishes with bitters and some alcohol bite. strong beer at 9%abv. but not all i would have hoped for from dog fish, good but far from there best.
