Definite malty, grassy aroma. Sweet malty flavor with some hop bitterness to back it up. Has a fair amount of carbination. Long sweet, heavy, thick, chewy, finish. It’s not bad, drinkable, but I wouldn’t say it’s up to Dogfish’s normal standard. Nothing special, seems kind of overrated to me. bindpmc (88), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 5, 2006 An excellent pilsner. 750ml bottle, nice bubbly pour. Lots of little bubbles in the straw-colored liquid. Nose smelled fresh at the least, not a lot to it but very nice. It is not like there was a distinctive hop or malt tone in the aroma, but it just smelled clean, and I mean that in a good way. Not annoyingly sweet like some craft pilsners can be. Nice balance. Lasting impression is banana and saltwater taffy from the pier in Atlantic City, of all things. I’d like to try a few more of these over time to build up more of an impression, but after one large bottle, I like it. Thanks to jjpm74 for the trade! Kevin (1918), Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 30, 2006 Pours a dark and sparkling yellow with a lemon cream head that is thick and lasting. Lemon sweetness, like a lemon custard in the nose. I really like this aroma. A bit of straw way back there, but the pie like lemon is great with a touch of butter flavor is tart with the hops jumping out first. Chewy flavors of oranges, candy corn, strawberry nougat, and vanilla pudding. Thick and sticky. The alcohol is easily detected in this. Overall I like it, I’d buy it again if it was available locally.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 26, 2006 This beer gets a high score primarily for its fantastic aroma of malt, toffee, and alcohol. No high-hop nose which is what it seems that most think imperial means. Clear "golden shower" look in the glass, nothing special. Taste is elegantly balanced, similar to the 90 minute, but a bit thinner at the end, giving it more bitterness, which is nice. Enjoyable beer. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Jun 24, 2006 750 ml bottle from Stateline Liquors in Elkton, MD (April 2006), imbibed just over fridge temperature from a Michelob glass. Pours a very clear gold-amber with a moderate lasting snowy head and a fair bit of lacing....sweet, lightly alcoholic grainy aroma offers faint hints of honey....on the tongue, quite sweet and initially reminiscent of some fairly nasty malt liquors, though as it warms and swirls on the tongue it becomes just a little more palatable and interesting -- but just a little; oranges gradually appear in the nose and a touch of orange liqueur in the body, a bit of spicy yeast and some bready tones.....but this remains from start to finish mostly a syrupy-sweet, cloying, alcoholic’s heavenly concoction, a drink for drunks passing forth under the railroad tracks in a paper bag. Better than OE or Colt 45? I suppose, it has little in the way of the metallic nastiness or adjuncty character that those contain, but honestly the overall impression is fuesel alcoholic swill. No way I could finish the bottle, or even half of it.....blech. My reaction is very similar to Clark’s; how can this hop-free cloying mess be perceived as drinkable and even tasty by so many? You want an "Imperial Pils"? Go with Sam Adams....or skip "imperial" altogether and just have 2 Christoffel Blondes; you’ll be glad you did. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 23, 2006 750ml bottle. Bubble pint glass. Pours clear golden-amber, with crisp carbonation cascading upwards. A frothy, off-white head sits atop. Aroma is sweet caramel, earthy/spicy hops, grass, bublbegum. The flavor spectrum begins with honey malty sweetness dominating, and becomes crisply bitter, with a strong bite of alcohol heat.. Finishes with pilsner-style bittering, and more alcohol. This one may certainly benefit from a bit of aging in the cellar.
