Brewed in the USA........ Courtesy of AFI96, thanks Waylo. Pours a nice dark amber color with a med-off white head. Aroma of candy, moss, vanilla and caramel. Taste is kind of earthy with some sweet malts, alcohol, vanilla and scotch. The mouthfeel is well balanced, but kind of sweet. I don’t think i could drink more then one bottle.

On tap at Alembic for SF Beer Week. Met Sam from DFH there. He is a hell of a brewer, one of the best in the business. This beer was unbelievably good. Pours a deep red color with a small off-white head. This beer was like a beer, wine, and cheese party in one glass. Aroma was ridiculously appealing - sweet malt, caramel, maple, vanilla, oak, some dark fruit, and alcohol. Wow. Flavor was similarly complex, with sweet malt, red wine, smoke, vanilla, blue cheese (weird I know, but it worked!), oak, and bourbon. Palate was syrupy and smooth. A very well done beer.

Dark reddish orangish copperish color with little to no head. Oak is prevalent in the aroma and taste. Hints of vanilla and maple in the smell. Thick body and mouth feel and strong in alcohol.

2004 12 oz Bottle thanks to TheRealBastard. Burnt orange and hazy. CO2 release when cap was popped but zero head. Tiny bit of lace. Smell is wonderfully complex. Booze, plum, brown sugar. Sweet on first taste that moves to lightly bitter. Lots of little hints of flavors that are hard to pin down. Pineapple. Oak. Clear alcohol. Light, like gin, not heavy like brandy. Very nice. Maybe past its prime.

Sample from July 20, 2007 Beer Club Meeting. (Entering old ratings.) 12oz bottle at home on May 9, 2009. Amber-mahogany color, almost looks syrupy. A great barley wine... well flavored and fruity. The maple/vanilla is a nice touch, breathes a little life into the style. The barley has great characteristics that round out the sweetness quite well. Roasted and a little smokey. Very well done. Definitely sweet for the style. Will always keep an eye open for this one on the shelves! Very enjoyable.

Orangey, nut-brown appearance. Medium body. Aroma of vanilla and alcohol. Caramel, toffee, vanilla, and maple malt heaven. Still, reminiscent of a 120 in its syrupy sweetness.

I’ve been sitting on this bottle for over a year. The aroma is malty, grapes, port, just smells delicious. It pours out a clear golden but as the glass fills it is a dark ruby brown. The head is mostly diminishing, just wisps on top. The initial flavor is roasted caramel, maple flavor, some bitter and a hint of alcohol. The body is medium, creamy and very soft carbonation.

Bottle. Ours with a copper color and a smallish head. Smells mainly of vanilla and toffee. The flavors are very complex: vanilla, oak and maple, and a finish that is best described as cheddar like. Fairly sweet without being cloying, a very complex and interesting beer.
