I couldn’t remember when trying it what the beer was made with... it was quite sweet and had this side... planty... flavor to it. It’s hard to describe, but it made me think of green plants. I have a feeling that was the peat or the juniper berries after age. Pretty good stuff, though. joebudzjoe (227), Connecticut, USA

Tastes like a good fire in the backcountry. Strong bourbon notes. Perfect cold weather beer. KyotoLefty (1420), Kyoto, Japan

Sweet malt dominates, with maple, some smoked flavors, oak, berries, and soy sauce. Fruity and rich. Interesting stuff.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 29, 2009 Pours deep cloudy orange with a soapy head. Aroma is alcohol, sweet malt and hops. Flavor is mostly oak, smoke, maple syrup and some alcohol. Sweet, but also meaty - this would go well with a grilled chicken. Fratto (728), Arlington, Texas, USA

Aromas of vanilla and oak (as advertised), fruit (grapes, baked apples, raspberries) and cognac. Flavorrs very much vanilla and barrel woods, some orangey citrus, lots of alcohol and cognac. Little medicinal. A fine barleywine - heaps of flavor. DeadGirl (242), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA

I can’t identify the array of notes in the aroma (resin?), so I take a swig and Woah! Alcohol’s definitely present, as is sweet malts, dark prunes, caramel, liquid smoke, molasses, and vanilla. Perhaps can identify more, however the alcohol is just evaporating straight off my tounge. Drinkability: Hit or Miss! If you can binge on cough syrup you can give this one a try. Otherwise, a great 4oz. sampler beer. Rebuy: Probably not. Maybe... to get fucked up on. #125 on 18092009, DG. Duhast500 (176), , Massachusetts, USA

The color is dark reddish amber with a slight off-white head and some slight lacing.
The smell is has some strong alcohol in the nose. Is very sweet with some maple flavor with some hints of oak.
The taste is smokey with caramel and molasses flavors that seem to be present at first. Some nice syrupy malt flavor that is slightly tart, feels a bit like cough syrup.
The feel of this beer is smooth and does go down well sliding into your throat with a bit of a resiny feel to it.
