| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 19, 2008 Pours beautiful rust color with a beige head that doesn’t fully dissipate. Aroma is predominately oak and sweet malt with some alcohol. Oak,vanilla and maple syrup dominated flavor. Very malty brew, not much in the way of hops and the alcohol is hardly noticeable. Great full, sticky palate. Excellent beer, a unique but great barley wine. dogfish120love (263), west hartford, Connecticut, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 19, 2008 12 oz bottle...thanks to Islay for picking me this up while in Wisconsin. Clear brown pour. Filtered. Dopplebock like aroma of caramel, vanilla, and oak. Some peated malts in the flavor. This is a malt heavy and hop light beer, and the smoke on this makes it almost like a strong scotch ale, like a wee heavy. Not what I was expecting since it is listed under barley wine. I think if I wasn’t expecting a barley wine I may have given this slightly higher scores. But I expected more hops and therefore my expectations were let down. dmtroyer (410), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 19, 2008 12oz. Pours a very deep red tending to brown. I produced a small brown head but only from pouring into the body and it disappeared pretty quickly. First thing on the nose was alcohol, once I wrapped my head around that I found some spicy molasses and some other licorice-like scents. Flavor is beyond sweet with loads of vanilla, syrup, glycerin. There is quite an attack on the palate of heavy, heavy alcohol-laden smoky flavors. Body is very viscous, tending to flat which would be my major critique of the brew. Worthy of the score but not an everyday drinker and not my style. I think I could appreciate this more in the winter. sebletitje (1914), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 17, 2008 Pours amber/copper/red. Thick whire head.
Aroma is malty and vanilla with undertone of oak.
The beer gained a lot by getting closer to room temperature and gained a stronger smokey note. Mouthfeel was filled with malt, sweet vanilla and tingly on the tongue. The 11% slowly sneak up on you, unnoticed.
A great mix of flavors, and another hit by this excellent brewery. 502Flavors (621), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 17, 2008 12 oz. into shaer for lack of sniffer. Rich brown pour with reddish hue and big pillows off-white head. Aroma is mostly alcohol and sweet malt but pretty tame compared to what I expected. Flavor was very funky at first: woody smoky with a little soy flavor, sweet malt, and more. Medium bodied on the palate but with as full and dense a mouth feel as a medium bodied brew could produce. Overall: unique approach to barley wine, but probably not worth the price in my opinion. Whatever... try it. MuttyD (93), Cambridge, USA
