Pours dark amber/copper with off white head. Sweet fruity aroma. Flavor is smokey sweet with vanilla and caramel. You can definately tell it is aged in oak by the strong woody flavor. Alcohol is present but not overwhelming considering it is 11% abv. Full body with minimal carbonation and a syrupy mouthfeel. A nice sipping beer.

Pours a cloudy brown with a small of white soapy head. You can see the sediment in this one. Aroma is dark fruits, yeast, vanilla, wood and peat. Flavor is peat, smoke, wood, brown sugar, dark fruits, spices, malt, hops with a little booziness. Very unique, interesting and delicious barleywine.

Scores extremely well in my opinion in the aroma and appearance categories. Taste is great at first, but slowly becomes a little too sweet. You can definitely taste vanilla and maple syrup, a tad too much for me.

[Bottle without a date, but I know its recent] Pours a clear orangish/amber with a thin creamy white froth on top. Sweet woody aroma with notes of Belgian yeast (I love how I could smell this before I read it was in the description), very fruity, grapes, and yea I guess maple. Interesting flavor, smokey, maple, nutty, cashews, soapy, red fruit, stingy hops, candied malts... completely unique in a familiar way. Lots of smokey sweet honey & maple in the finish. A bit medicinal, but the sweetness matches the alcohol well. Body is a thicker more syrupy version of the typical DFH body, medium, light syrupy, fizzy big bubbled carbonation. Interesting... maybe aging will give it some more sophistication... good thing I have another.

A whopping alcohol content with a complex palate of oak, vanilla, and a deep smokey quality. I loved it.

12oz bottle. Pours a beautiful ruby-tinged brown with a firm off-white head. Aroma is rich, with strong notes of smoke, wood, dark fruit, roasted malt, and a bit of syrupy hops. Body is full and malty, with a very mellow initial flavor of dark fruit and syrupy hops giving way to a long, scotch-like finish of wood, smoke, vanilla, and a mellow and sweet alcoholic kick. A true work of art -- marvelous depth, skillful balance, and simply delicious.

Caramel and butterscotch notes with strong hints of toasted malt - almost a syrupy-sweetness dominate the aroma. Appearance is stunning with a thick, off-white head that dissipates quickly, revealing a mahogany body. Flavor is perfectly complex, yet controlled. The initial sweetness quickly gives way to a mellower, nutty finish leaving notes of cinnamon, yeast and vanilla - a veritable cinnamon bun in a glass. Utterly fantastic, I’d like to see this against a washed rind cheese, in particular Winnemere (raw cow’s milk washed in lambic) or perhaps Grayson.
