Caramel and butterscotch notes with strong hints of toasted malt - almost a syrupy-sweetness dominate the aroma. Appearance is stunning with a thick, off-white head that dissipates quickly, revealing a mahogany body. Flavor is perfectly complex, yet controlled. The initial sweetness quickly gives way to a mellower, nutty finish leaving notes of cinnamon, yeast and vanilla - a veritable cinnamon bun in a glass. Utterly fantastic, I’d like to see this against a washed rind cheese, in particular Winnemere (raw cow’s milk washed in lambic) or perhaps Grayson.

Appearance 5 out of 5 Color: dark Clarity: brilliant Head Retention: persistent Lace: intricate Notes: A very nice looking ale, and one of the few I’ve seen at this alcohol content with good lacing. Flavor 10 out of 10 Intensity: strong Balance: bitter Impression: nice Malt Flavor: wheat, barley, oats, brown sugar, hazelnut, syrup Hops Flavor: marigold, coriander, parsley, lemon Other:oak Notes: A brilliant flash of inspiration with the flavor rush. It takes a moment to hit, in an amazing control over the 11% abv. So very well balanced, and so much more so than the 120 minute IPA. It’s phenomenal. Palate 5 out of 5 Mouthfeel Sensation: creamy warming Body: full Carbonation: average Finish Length: long Intensity: strong Balance: bitter Notes: A wonderfully deep finish. General Impression: 19 out of 20 Craftmanship: excellent Freshness: fresh Personal Taste: loved Notes: One of the finest controls over alcohol content I’ve ever experienced. You expect to be thrown down and ravaged, and instead, you’re invited out for dinner and a movie. Spectacular.

dark brown with decent tan head. thick mouthfeel. flavor of crystal malt with some evidence of the smoked aspect present and also some of the oak is present and definitely the classic fig of a barley wine. the hops are surprisingly present for such an alcoholic beer, providing bitterness. the alcohol comes on at the end and provides some depth. a very nice beer, that tastes almost most like an abbey dubble than a barley win, but good nonetheless

I smell hop agitation, bourbon, caramel, almost ginger. Taste citrus, pine, smoke, vanilla, cherries. Has good weight--a shade lighter than some other barley wines--and aromatics in the mouth, warming. Off white head on reddish brown clarity. Malt dominates but hops and alcohol keep away cloying

Wow. A strong ale with wonderful complexity--notes of maple, vanilla. A beautiful dark burgundy brown, with a tan head, A must try. So well-developed that the high alcohol content is not noticed at all in the flavor.

this is a tough beer, to say it finishes warm is a grea tunderstatment. This brew is a killer, heavy dark sweet malt flavor, smooth as silk and a burning feeling that rides straight to your core. Its worth a try that for sure.

Nice beer. Pours a reddish/brown color with a pretty small head. Aromas and flavor are oddly enough papaya juice. Sounds weird, but its true. There are hints of wood, vanilla, caramel, sugar and sweet malts on the tongue. I liked it.

It poured a reddish-brown color with a yellowish head. Aroma is roasted barley, hops, and dark fruits. Notes of caramel, vanilla, mple, and, sweet malts. It had a sweet taste with a bitter finish. The Immort Ale is a little comparable to the 120 Minute IPA, I am guessing due to the oak barrel aging and the feel on the palate. I do not know if this is really a barley wine, but it is very complex and good.
