Aroma is roasted barley, hops, and dark fruits. Notes of caramel, vanilla, mple, and, sweet malts. It had a sweet taste with a bitter finish. The Immort Ale is a little comparable to the 120 Minute IPA, I am guessing due to the oak barrel aging and the feel on the palate. I do not know if this is really a barley wine, but it is very complex and good. Petrucci914 (595), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 26, 2008 Pours a cherry mahogany color with no head and small streams of lacing. Aroma is boozy, vanilla, and syrupy caramel malts. Taste is very complex. Up front it is very syrupy and sugary, with hints of vanilla and dark fruits. The palate is smoked oak and a hint of chocolate. Not as harsh tasting as one might think and a very interesting assault on the palate. tagz (334), USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 23, 2008 Aged one year. Pours a clear reddish brown with light tan head. Very nice flavor of caramel malt, dark fruit, vanilla, oak, maple, earthyness, and some hints of leather and smoke. Quite complex and a mouth coating full body. This is a must try beer. lithy (1800), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 22, 2008 Nice ruby color with a very thin cream colored head that barely recovers with a swirl of the snifter. Strong nose of alcohol burns the nose. The oak and vanilla really jump out amongst the sweeping sweetness of syrup and malt (and syrupy malt). This beer has legs like a nice wine. The oily body coats the mouth then releases powerful flavors of vanilla and oak that linger tastes of smoked peat (which I found surprisingly appealing). Not too sweet like too many barley wines. Literally intoxicatingly good. trevor211 (518), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 22, 2008 Updated: Aug 29, 2008I can’t believe I haven’t tried this sooner. This is absolutely wonderful stuff - incredibly complex, almost like a blend of a great barley wine with a bit of IPA and a bit of smokey stout - it has notes of all of them. Pours a deep reddish brown with a tan head. Initial aroma is of smoke, oak, scotch whiskey and a bit of vanilla. Then it gets a little richer, adding dark fruits and notes from a Belgian quad, balancing out with a hop bitterness. It’s thick - almost syrupy in the mouth, and is almost like chasing a porter with a quadrupel, and chasing that with a hoppy red ale. Every single one of the flavors is readily apparent and well-balanced. A bit of alcohol burn at the end isn’t unpleasant at all - it makes it feel like you’re sipping a fine spirit. I’m incredibly impressed, and will search long and hard to find this on tap. polomagnifico (535), Saginaw, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 21, 2008 bottle. Aroma has notes of wood, vanilla, spice, peat, latakia, and leather. Dark amber brown hue with a small off-white head that mostly diminished and left little lace. Flavor is earthy with leather, peat, smoke, and wood tones. Some sweet vanilla and caramel as well. Palate is full bodied and soft with a slight alcohol burn. A very different barley wine and very complex. Very earthy, smoky, and woody. Very different but still really interesting and neat but still good. Ceebs25 (242), Naperville, Illinois, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 20, 2008 Updated: Sep 27, 2008bottle. nice, crazy aroma, red wine, yeast, alcohol, raspberries, and something else, hard to put my finger on. Slight fizzy brownish white head on the pour, diminishes into nothing, no lacing, but the color is very unique, brownish grape amber is the best i can do. Very complex taste, i seem to get something different with every sip, tart fruity red berry start, some alcohol, red wine, slight bite but still very smooth, fruity grain malt, slight bitter flowery hop along with red wine and malt aftertaste, lingers nicely. I’m very impressed, perhaps the best barely wine i have tried to this point.
