Deep amber pour. Wide mix of scents and flavor with a little smokiness and some alcohol. A smooth drink with plenty of flavor. Recommended.

Didn’t know this was a barley wine until I was a bit of the way through it. Alcohol is present on the nose, but there’s a lot of spice, butter, vanilla, little cinnamon on the aroma too. Pours a nice ruby/amver color with not much head. Flavor is very smooth with an alcohol kick on the end. the vanilla and cinnamon comes through in the flavor as well. Lots of sweet malt. Alcohol isn’t hidden real well, but it is a barley wine. Pretty good.

35.5cl bottle from Countryside Liquors (Tampa). Pours dark brownish-red with a thin tan head. Aroma is oakiness, heavy malt, somewhat sour. Taste is sugary and syrupy with a malty and oaky finish. Notes of plum, prune and raisin are present. Medium-bodied ale with a smooth mouthfeel. Alcohol comes through on finish but is well-hidden until.

[rerate] 08/17/08 - fresh bottle. Still as complex as I remember it. Picked up on nice dark fruity flavors along with the vanilla. The smooth finish is nicely complimented by the subtle oak flavors. I think I’m gaining more respect for this beer each time I drink it.

Bottle, aged 1 year. This is an extremely complex beer. It hits you with a multitude of flavors. As soon as you think you know what this beer taste like, it throws something else at you. The complexity grows as it warms to room temperature. I honestly wasn’t too sure of this beer upon the first drink, but by the end, I thoroughly enjoyed it’s intense character.

Pour is a chestnut brown with a average tan head. Aroma is heavy caramel malts and a nice dark fruit. Flavor is lots of dark fruit and candi sugar. Some vanilla and oak leave a trace on the tounge as this goes down. Then a minor alcohol burn greets you. Overall an outstanding barley wine with every aspect your looking for in a BW coming on strong.

Bottle->snifter: pours a spare, fizzy, off-white head that is diminishing and exhibits good lacing atop a lightly cloudy, medium brown body. The aroma of malt is toasted caramel and cookie; hops are citrus and there is an otherwise heavy alcohol aroma with a tinge of ginger in there as well. The body is full, the texture is alcoholic, the carbonation is fizzy, and the finish is astringent. The flavor’s duration is long, and is moderately sweet and acidic. Other notes are hints of pumpkin pie and is an otherwise great beer, minus its heavily alcoholic aroma.

Bottle... Poured deep ruby with a beige head. Aroma of chalky, roasted malt and crystal sugars. Lots of smoked flavors with maybe vanilla bean and fruity flavors. Roasted and oaky malt as well. Nice and hearty and beautiful to sip slowly.

Really complex with heavy smoke notes, bourbon, vanilla, cherry and maple. Not what you want to chug in the summer, but you can appreciate the craft that goes into this. Really interesting and tasty, but not exactly my thing.
