Vast in character, luscious & complex. Brewed with peat-smoked barley, this strong ale is brewed with organic juniper berries, vanilla & maple syrup. It’s aged on oak and fermented with a blend of English & Belgian yeasts.

Pours a deep ruby brown, thin tan head. Nice aroma of spice, and some sugar. Actually goes down amazingly well for a 11% beer (which I can’t say for some of the other Dogfish Head beers). I don’t taste the vanilla as much but it does have a little bit of sweetness probably from the maple syrup. Nice oak flavor at the end of each sip. Really solid beer, I’m impressed.

Vintage 2004. Beautiful clear fire tones with a thin, bubbly off white head. Still lots of carbonation after 4 years. Strong scotch nose, with wood, vanilla, chocolate, fruity, caramel, tobacco, hazelnut, butterscotch and musty notes. The taste is very complex and intriguing. At first, the alcohol is very strong, with bourbon, oak, and tobacco notes. The next thing you notice is a powerful astringent like sweetness, with hints of caramel and chocolate. It finishes long and hot, with a fantastic fruity brightness that is similar do an oak-y Noir. Very interesting to see how this one aged. Fresh I thought it was a mess, and after 4 years, I still think it needs a little more time.

Looking at this beer was enough for me honestly. It was that good already. This vanilla and maple come out just in the right amounts. Good mix and delicious.

Pours a deep ruby-amber, with a rising head. Aroma is very complex, oak, vanilla, brown sugar, maple syrup, dark fruits. Taste is almost overwhelming on the taste buds: there’s an omnipresent smokiness of wood, maple, oak, vanilla. It’s sweet and also bitter, there is a slight alcoholic. It has a Belgian yeast characteristic as well. The mouthfeel is fairly full with a low carbonation. Overall, it is impressive that a beer this complex can be this drinkable. I highly recommend it.

Probably one of the most difficult ales to rate. Very complex, and almost a chameleon ale, that changes character with uncanny ability. From the nose on down to the palate, this extremely complex ale changes its character from sniff to sniff and sip to sip. It reveals on a revolving basis tones of maple sugar to smoky wood to vanilla to alcohol and on through several more complex and lighter attributes. The only thing that can be counted on is that once again Dogfish Head has brewed another winner.

Bottle, Kegs & Barrels in McKinney, TX. Poured a a deep amber/red color Very nice strong aroma of dark fruit notes and malt. Flavor much the same with added maple flavor, has a nice strong flavor, nice alcohol spice. Full Body, coats the tounge, low-medium carbonation. Very Good stuff!!!!!

Dogfish has done another excellent beer. This one the ingredients have been blended togeather perfectly. A hinf of vanilla, a hint of berries, a hint of male syrup, blended so that none overwhelm the other. A pleasing aroma, a nice dark appearance, a super flavor and a good aftertaste on the palate. I have to rate this one high on the Dogfish beers I have sampled.

this one pours a amber red, kind looks like maple syrup. it has a small head that stays afloat for a while, it has a real sweet and malty character to it, also tastes of maple syrup and a slight bitter aftertaste. This is another top favorite DH.
