Poured a deep murky brown with a nutty brown head, a thin head. Deep maple aroma and flavor with mild honey and vanilla accents. Very overwhelming and satisfying on a dark gloomy day.

This is an older bottle, November of 2003, I think. Distinct nose of honey, and vinous aspects. vanilla and juniper not really there in the nose. Fruity esters, likely from the belgian yeast. a vigorous pour offers quickly diminishing head. deep copper color, slight chill haze. Taste is ultra rich, body is very thick. Wow, there is some definite roastiness to this, probably the smoked barley. This is an excellent beer. Nice.

Poured copper and brown mix. Small fizzy head. I smell vanilla and maple as the bottle says. It actually poured thick, like syrup. Head leaves excellent lacing. First taste is sweet, like vanilla hard candy, filled with maple syrup. Then quickly fades to a dry slightly bitter finish. The alcohol comes forward on the after taste. As it warms further, there is an oak or woody note. This is a very good beer, well made and complex.

Pours a dark cloudy amber, with a very thin small bubbly head. Pungent fruity alcoholic aroma with malt. Quite sweet and syrupy tasting at first, flavor really fills out with smoke, caramel, vanilla, and mild dryness. I think this would be a knockout if a bit less sweet or perhaps with more aging.

A nice maple hue. The smell of oak really stands out. Sweet on first taste, similar to maple syrup. Has a slightly dry finish. The aftertaste is roasty and has a slight smoky flavor almost a hint of bacon. Smooth with little carbonation. Excellent!

12 oz bottle. Deep mahogony amber with a thin white head. Malty aroma with a hint of alcohol as well. Very strong flavors. I drank it young and maybe it mellows better with age, but it is harsh to start.

Bottle from The_Epeeist on 02/22/07. Pours with little head. Deep amber color, almost cloudy. Nice interesting aroma: wonderful peat-smoked aroma, but mild. Too much is nauseating, too little is bland. This is perfect. My first impression was that of oak aging, which I guess it is now that i read about it. A real pleasure to smell. Maybe I should give the smell a 10. Heavy body. Nice mouthfeel. Alcohol presence balanced well with sweetness. Yum. Very, very good. I love these kinds of Barleywines. Fined tuned to near perfection. Maybe I should give it a 4.4. Yep, I just did. Stick this in a 750mL cork finished bottle and slap on Lost Abbey or Alesmith, Russian River, etc. and you’ve got a 4.15 beer.

Dark reddish orangish copperish color with little to no head. Oak is prevalent in the aroma and taste. Hints of vanilla and maple in the smell. Thick body and mouth feel and strong in alcohol.
