I have been pretty rough on DFH beers. I’m simply not a huge fan. This one, however, is pretty tasty. Deep rich brown color, and a heavenly caramel/toffee aroma. Flavor is simply spot on for the style. Some nice hoppiness compliments the deep, rich caramel/oak/vanilla flavors. Some alcohol burn is my only complaint, but I would imagine this would be exceptional after about another year or two of aging.

Pours a brown with a medium off white head. Smells delicious with a smoked (like charred oak casks), caramel and higher alcohol aroma. Very rich flavors with some maple, a smokiness, and again the alcohol is very warming. This one is pretty good and if I didn’t only have one bottle I would probably find different flavors everytime I drank it.

Oh fuuuuuck this is a perfect beer. Just like the label says, smooth with maple, vanilla and oak. This first thing that hits you is the woody palate, followed by the lingering vanilla and oak flavors. Smoky, yet not overkill. After it warms, you can taste notes of sesame oil.

[1012-20071229] 12floz. Medicinal grainy toasted malt aroma with green licorice laces. Hazy, dark brown mahogany body with a quick foamy off-white head. Boozy yeast and malty toasted grain flavour is very smoky. Medium-full body. Interesting smokiness.

Dark copper to rust in color, hardly any head poured at all and there was barely any lacing either. There were scents of smoked pork, sugar, spice, caramel and vanilla. In the mouth the beer is powerful with good weight and the high alcohol leads to the mouth being coated with flavor. The midpalate is sweet with flavors of cherry, bourbon and caramel that leads to a medicinal finish. This finish lingers for awhile and with the high alcohol this is more of a sipping beer. Overall, the beer has good complexity and power though may be too sweet for anything but sipping. Given the right occasion, this certainly has a place. In fact, given time to warm up and get some air this continues to drink better and better. Should improve with aging.

Thanks to Mreusch for this one... An extra I think. Pours a slightly hazy orange with a small disappearing off-white head. Smells of malts and aclohol and a tiny hint of tooth paste. Sweet with malty aromas of caramel and smoke. Also some dates and a hint of wood. Full bodied. Slightly sticky mouthfeel. Medium to low carbonation. Nice sweet finish with wood and smoke. Best thing: the smoke and the finish.

I believe this was a 2002 bottle, but maybe 03. Cloudy caramel color with almost no head, but a few white bubbles around the edge. Aroma of some woods, a lot of caramel, dates, some grapes, apples. Very sweet flavors. Caramel, almost sugary. A bit of darker dried fruits like dates and figs along with grapes. The finish is a a bit dry and woody. From what I can remember, the alcohol taste has faded quite a bit. I think I liked this fresh, but still not too bad

Bottle trade w/ foureyedgeek. Pours a hazy amber with orange tint and very little head. Strong nose of alcohol, cherries, and smokey wood. Strong alcohol and sweetness that book end a slight bitterness and strong oak flavors.
