Pours red with a small, foamy, quickly disapating off-white head. Big carmel nose with a hint of smoke. Great mouthfeel, thick and viscous with light carbonation. Big malt profile, sweet carmel with a touch of smoke, then toffee and vanilla. Oaked and woody notes come through as it warms in the glass, mingling with the smoke to round out this tasty treat. Alcohol isn’t apparent, making this a dangerous, tasty treat! robforbes (1099), Bremerton, Washington, USA

pour is a cloudy dark amber with a ruby tint, thin off-white head that dissipates rapidly, and a little lacing.
smell tingles the nose, sweet, some fruit, caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, and burnt oak.
taste is toffee like, thick, sweet, definite vanilla, smoke, the smokiness grows as you drink and becomes more pronounced, a roastiness in the back, and some malt, ends dry and slightly bitter. AmEricanbrew (1925), Wynot, Wyoming, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 13, 2007 Hazy amber/red color with no head. Musty wood earthy malt smell with sugar soaked berries. Decent taste is a mellow sweetness of vanilla, sugar, wood, and alcohol. Not a pit fruit bittersweet like many barley wines. Good. 12/12/2007 nuplastikk (1209), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Smells strong and cognac-like. I think the additives, particularly the vanilla, counteract the alcohol very well. A slow sipper, ages well. Skeegle (499), Maryland, USA

It seemed to have zero sweetness and fruit flavors whatsoever, which is why I drink Barley Wines. It did have some slight caramel to it, but the nose and the finish are all yeasty and malty. This was so tasty and smooth, I really don’t see how they could hide the 11% alcohol. LinusStick (1847), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Very drinkable. Aroma was decent. Vanilla, oak and smoke. Pour was a nice dark amber with a thin off white ring for a head. Taste was different than any barley wine I’ve had. Strong vanilla, oak and caramel malt with a nice heavy smoke flavor in the aftertaste. Little carbonation, but the flavor makes up for that. I would have NEVER guessed this was 11%. Nice job
