Aroma is blackstrap molasses, dark fruits, spice, a touch of juiper.The beer pours a reddish, copper color with a fine head. Huge mouthfeel. Malty, peaty (at first, it fades), with dark fruits, vanilla, yeasty spice, botanicals, and a lingering finish that ends with a touch of maple syrup. The alcohol starts to sting as the beer warms, but it is to be expected. Very interesting beer. When I read the description, I though this would be a mess of flavors, but the additions all come off as subtle and add to the complexity.

pours a cloudy dark orange copper with a nice two finger fluffy light brown head. aroma is maple, vanilla, and a little oak just like the bottle says. has a medium to full body with good lacing and descent carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma with a bit of the 11% abv. has an oily and syrupy mouth feel. it is an experience but i will pass.

Heavy and warm, lots of flavor. Very strong, a nice barely wine. Lots of vanilla, caramel, kind of smokey.

Bottle at Uber. Sweet malt aroma. Smokey taste with a bit of vanilla vodka; alcohol ain’t hidden in this one, but that’s not a surprise. Love the smoke...wasn’t expecting that.

I’m not impressed overall. No real discernable aroma. Nice caramel color with small head. Taste is complex. Vanilla, caramel, charcoal, fruit. palate really hurts this one for me. Very astringent with rubbing alcohol taste. Thin malt covering.

THOUGHTS: Very nice barley wine. Not much to say, just a really good beer. Also this may sound crazy but it also seemed to have slightly hallucinogenic qualities to it. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark orangy red with a small, off-white head that almost fully siminished but left fair lacing. The aroma was moderate to heavy molasses, along with apple cherry, brown sugar, raisins and a little alcohol. The initial flavor was heavily sweet, while the finish was heavily to harshly sweet, lightly acidic, and lightly to moderately bitter with an average duration. The dominant flavors were caramel malt, apple and a little cherry. There was also a little smokey and woodsy aspects too along with some brown sugar and maybe a little ginger or cinnamon. The medium to full body was syrupy with fixxy carbonation and a lightly alcoholic finish.

Bottle. Pours a clear deep amber with a small short lived light tan head that leaves some lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, vanilla, caramel, light oak, and light smoke. Taste is the same as aroma with a hint of port wine. Medium full mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness for a BW and mild amount of alcohol warmth thats never hot. Another wonderfull beer from Dogfish Head.

(bottle): Pours a reddish brown color. Very little head, yellowish-white, fine bubbles. Dark fruit, dark woody. Smell of medicine bandage. Alcoholy. Not too strong. That same medicinely bandage taste. Similar taste as the aroma. Dark fruit. Smooth, not like other barley wines I’ve had.
