Bottle. Aroma is quite unique. Malt notes of cookie, roasted and nutty, hop notes of flowers and orange peel and a light note of soap for the yeast. There’s a heavy note of smoke, like bacon, in the background followed by vanilla and alcohol. Head is white, between creamy and frothy but diminishes and leaves fair amount of lacing. Color is a hazy red/brown. Flavor starts harshly sweet, almost cloying, and acidic then finishes moderately sweet and lightly sweet an just a touch salty. Palate is medium, creamy/syrupy/sticky with lively carbonation and an alcoholic finish. For me, the taste is a little too overpowering but an okay beer, just not my favorite barley wine.

I thought this was another tasty product from Dogfish Head. I looks almost like flat Coca Cola but really didnt have much more than a malty/alcohol nose. The first couple of sips seemed to taste like medicine but quickly turned to smoke maple syrup and. vanilla. This would be an excellent dessert beer.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy reddish brown with a thin, creamy tan head. Light but pleasant malty aroma was quite ordinary actually and did not at all prepare me for the flavor. Wow! The first sip revealed lots of vanilla, oak, bourbon, some toffee, and some maple as well. Incredibly flavorful. Long, warming finish. The mouthfeel is almost buttery, like a very good chardonay. Really good stuff!

Poured straight into the bottom of my South China brewing Co glass. Massive head fills the glass. Subtle aroma. Sip of Foam is chock full of the vanilla earthy spices. Blamo - totally unique lip smacking goodness. Complex beer for complex people.

A deep red/brown pour with almost no head. An aroma of sweet malt. The first thing that jumped out at me was the apparent smoke. The sweetness is pretty special to me. The palate was just a tad thin but just a bit. The carbonation was good. A good BW that I will allow to age for a while before I drink another.

Deep red color with no head or lacing. Aroma is rich and malty. Full bodied flavor has sweet malts, definite maple syrup with light fruit flavors and a small alcohol tingle. Very complex and delicious.

This poured a dark ruby red color almost brown with a thin head that dissipated quickly. The aroma was very complex of maple, oak, vanilla, and dark fruits and malts. I get a little bit of smoke in there as well. The flavor was much the same with the oak undertones throughout. The smoke, maple, and vanilla really start to come through with roasted malts and caramel as it starts to warm up. I get a hint of the alcohol warmth on the way down, but not bad. It is full bodied and syrupy with the oak undertones all the way down. A really nice complex beer. This is one of their better offerings.

Malty wood aroma. Light amber color with no head some white foam. Very strong medicine taste. Light palate for 11% abv.
