| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 14, 2009 Enjoyed on several occasions from a 12oz bottle. This is definitely one of my "death row" beers. The aromas and complex flavors are excellent. A nose of malt complexity and character, along with a touch of vanilla and a slight hop spice come through. Depending on the occasion, the palate has ranged from assertively hoppy with a touch of alcohol warmth, to smoothly malty - obviously coming from samples with differing levels of age. In any variation, an excellent beer. jfenglish (217), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 13, 2009 Bottle- backyard on a Sunday afternoon with Marci...Color is dark brown/ruby, with almost no head. Aroma is lush- dried cherry, sweet malts, and some pepper/spice. Flavor is sweet right away, and sure did taste the 11% without a doubt. I liked the sweetness, but it had a nice balancing spiciness to offset the big malts in this one. There was a hint of Scotch Ale in this too- just a light peatyness. Didn’t taste the vanilla or maple as described on the bottle though. I bet this would age great. Sparky27 (1641), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 13, 2009 Bottle by way of msante79. Pours a hazy amber with a one finger light tan head that faded into a thin topper quickly. The nose is oaky vanilla, fruit and brown sugar. The taste is molasses, smoky wood, ripe fruit, caramel and brown sugar with some boozy resin hops in the finish. Medium bodied. A very nice BW. Big thanks Mark! Maverick34 (729), New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 13, 2009 En Bouteiille. Pours dark w/an active, mean, yet smallish white head. Aroma is vanilla sugar trees, if such a thing exists in nature, or not. Taste was similar to awesome as the smell, a nice arse-kick of bitterness and with a bit of an Alky edge cognizable. But what does one expect at 11 pourcent ABV. Good stuff. snakeoilpete (324), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 12, 2009 Bottle. Pours hazy brownish red with a thin beige head. Aroma is smoke, grain, and banana. Tastes mostly the same. Maybe some maple, definitely some alcohol. Roasty into the finish. Nice and thick. hophead21112 (124), Louisville (LEWISville), Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 11, 2009 Clear red pour with a one-finger white head that goes away fairly quickly leaving a little lace. Sweet and fruity on the nose with very little hop aroma - getting honey and vanilla as well. Flavor is grain and honey sweetness up front with alcohol all over. The juniper berries bring a little gin characteristic that complements the honey and maple and adds to the complexity. Smooth mouthfeel, medium body, minimal carbonation. Decent beer overall. I prefer the American Barley Wine style over the English. DrDavid (957), Johnson, Vermont, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 10, 2009 Bottle. Sweet woodsy aroma, with alcohol hints. Deep red body, small light brown head. Flavor is roasty, moderately sweet, plenty of fruit and caramel. Lots of alcohol gives a burn. A potent and delicious brew. bobbypaulson (100), , Minnesota, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 10, 2009 pours a red brown color with a honey vanilla and fruit aroma. The taste is crazy thee is so much going on everything is very balanced. It tastes much like how it smells which is amazing. Very smooth and lingers in your mouth for a while. The beer itself is very complex it has a lot of ingredients but all complement each other very nicely.
