Poured a a deep amber/red color
Very nice strong aroma of dark fruit notes and malt. Flavor much the same with added maple flavor, has a nice strong flavor, nice alcohol spice. Full Body, coats the tounge, low-medium carbonation. Very Good stuff!!!!!
joshwilfong (457), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 30, 2008 dark brown with decent tan head. thick mouthfeel. flavor of crystal malt with some evidence of the smoked aspect present and also some of the oak is present and definitely the classic fig of a barley wine. the hops are surprisingly present for such an alcoholic beer, providing bitterness. the alcohol comes on at the end and provides some depth. a very nice beer, that tastes almost most like an abbey dubble than a barley win, but good nonetheless raphael (238), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 29, 2008 I smell hop agitation, bourbon, caramel, almost ginger. Taste citrus, pine, smoke, vanilla, cherries. Has good weight--a shade lighter than some other barley wines--and aromatics in the mouth, warming. Off white head on reddish brown clarity. Malt dominates but hops and alcohol keep away cloying rds (66), USA Jun 29, 2008 Wow. A strong ale with wonderful complexity--notes of maple, vanilla. A beautiful dark burgundy brown, with a tan head, A must try. So well-developed that the high alcohol content is not noticed at all in the flavor. bigrond (843), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 28, 2008 this is a tough beer, to say it finishes warm is a grea tunderstatment. This brew is a killer, heavy dark sweet malt flavor, smooth as silk and a burning feeling that rides straight to your core. Its worth a try that for sure. daknole (478), Plantation, Florida, USA Jun 28, 2008 Nice beer. Pours a reddish/brown color with a pretty small head. Aromas and flavor are oddly enough papaya juice. Sounds weird, but its true. There are hints of wood, vanilla, caramel, sugar and sweet malts on the tongue. I liked it.
