Malt and hops! The commercial description is spot on. It’s like they took two different beers, a scotch ale and IPA, and mixed them together. Very interesting, but they don’t work together real well, rather the flavors are very separate. Strange.

DOGFISH BREWS HAVE BECOME SOME OF MY FAVORITES ALTHOUGH THIS ONE IS DELICIOUS IT IS NOT AS FLAVORFULL AS SOME OF THEIR OTHERS, ITS LESS HOPPY BUT STILL NUTTY AND SWEET, POURS A NICE DARK BROWN . IT IS WORTH A TRY!

Chocolate pour, low head, nice lacing. Light caramel aroma. Nicely carbed with a deep chocolate flavor. Light smokiness, tinged with alcohol and a nice aroma of fruity sweetness. A light nut finishes with more alcohol. Very tasty, a little dry.

6 pack. Pours a dark brown with a creamy light brown head that stays a while. The aroma is nutty with hints of molasses, caramel, a little chocolate and coffee. The flavor is semi sweet and a little nutty with notes of chocolate, coffee, molasses, hops, and caramel. This one is mostly on the malty side but there are some hops that come through. Taste like several different styles in one. Interesting.

Pours a nice dark brown color with an off white head. A coffee toasted nuts aroma. Taste of nuts and chocolate and raisins (it does kind of taste like raisinettes) with a slightly bitter after taste. Overall the beer is well balanced between sweet and bitter much like a good dark chocolate bar.

Pours dark brown with a ruby glow and a small tan head. Aroma is malty and rich with notes of coffee beans, chocolate, nuts brown sugar and spices. Flavor starts sweet and sugary with a smoky peat character behind it. Gains a sharp raisin, nuttiness and some bakers chocolate bitterness towards the finish. A nice sharp earthy hop bite lingers through the finish balancing the big bold maltiness. Medium bodied and a sharp carbonation. Big all around, though somewhat confusing as it tries to do so much at once.

Thick rich head, immediate nut aroma, with hints of sugar and alcohol lifting the nose. Tastes not as nutty as the smell indicates, but still noticeably present. There are also traces of caramel and coffee. There is a great balance of sweetness and hoppy bitterness. It is rich and very smooth making this a pleasure to drink.

Bottle from my friend Chris- A deep murky brown, with a thick and foamy mocha cap. Spotty lace leads to solid retention. Nose of cocoa nibs, chicory, molasses, anise, milk chocolate, dark fruits. The flavour profile is sweet pit fruits with milk chocolate, some coffee, molasses, a bit of hoisin, leafy greens, and fresh bitter hops. Nice finish, but perhaps a bit sweet for me to have any more than one. Thanks Chris!
