Aroma loaded with molasses, but also coffee and chocolate. Taste is full of molasses and just plain brown-ness (chocolate malts maybe). Somewhat creamy mouthfeel which makes it easy to quaff. Finishes quickly with little aftertaste. I’ve had quite a few of these in the past, and plan to do the same in the future. Good session beer. Steinface (77), Hatfield, Pennsylvania, USA

The alcohol really stands out the most as far as taste goes. Okay nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

Poured an ultra deep brown with a creamy and puffy tan head. Aroma is of coffee and molasses. Flavor reflects the aroma, with a little hop balance. Well carbonated and creamy to the palate. Another brilliant DFH beer. This is by far my favorite brewery. ScottB (73), Bristow, Virginia, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 14, 2008 Wonderfully well balanced. Aroma is smoky and sweet. Mouthfeel isn’t quite syrupy, but it’s definitely full bodied. Flavours of maple syrup, rich malt, coffee, smoke, taffy, and alcohol. A very drinkable brown ale, much more facinating than what is on the market today.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 14, 2008 From a bottle purchased from By the Bottle in Vancouver, WA--Poured a dark deep brown and mildly chestnut hue with a thin yet creamy tan head. Rich roasty, nutty, mealy, and grainy nose. Apparent hop spiciness, but predominantly malty and with a dryish grain finish. A meal in a bottle. RSRIZZO (1368), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 13, 2008 Aroma is a sweet roasted caramel scent. Color is a deep dark amber with good carbonation and a nice thick tan head. Taste is malty and bitter. Starting with a medium body it goes down smooth. Finish comes in with a sweet caramel flavor, some roasted and spicy malt tones and a mild bitterness. After taste is sweet then a bitter nip. This is a very good brown and my favorite so far from this brewery. Bigmmartin (373), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 12, 2008 Bottle. Deep brown with a thick beige head. Aroma isn’t very present, but still makes an appearance with some malt and coffee. Flavor is malty and bitter, with a few hints of sweet chocolate. Much more bitter than you would expect from an brown ale, which offers a nice twist. Pretty good brew, great for a brown ale.
