Very much like a big American porter. A huge thick mouthfeel with cocoa and coffee coming through, then hops on the back end. A very good beer, just not exactly my taste. swanmann (310), Norman, Oklahoma, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 14, 2008 Nice dark brown color with a thin lasting head. Chocolate, roast, coffee, and darker fruits in the aroma. A touch of earth. Nice roast and sweetness up front is finished with great bitter hops. Definite cross between and IPA and a Brown/Scottish. I enjoyed the balance between the initial sweetness and bitterness. JohnCoyne (70), USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 13, 2008 Pours a deep brown with a small tan head that faded fast. Smells of malt, raisins, chocolate and a touch of coffee. Tastes of roasted malt followed by mildly sweet chocolate and finishing on a light floral hoppiness. Mouthfeel is creamy and finish leaves a slight bitterness akin to a mocha coffee on the tongue. Deliciously wonderful. tongatim (20), Bellingham, Washington, USA

Rich appearing dark brown color with malty aroma. Tan head disappeared quickly. Nice full mouthfeel and very malty satisfying flavor with caramel malt presence quite pronounced. Sweetness well-balanced by significant hop bitterness which is accompanied by fine English-type hop flavor. Darn near a porter, I would agree with Dogfish’s description of a cross between a Scotch Ale and IPA, though can’t see any American Pale resemblance.
Dogfish scores again! FleeVT (40), Boca Raton, Florida, USA

Pours a very dark brown with a hint of crimson. Thin head that remains through entire beer. Sweet and malty with a faint hint of alcohol on the nose. The flavor is a fantastic balance of hoppy bitterness, mildly sweet chocolate, and slight alcohol. Great taste with nothing overwhelming, just extremely balanced.
Medium body that matches the taste balance. This is a good beer. Substantial, but not so much that I couldn’t have a few. milljam (584), Norman, Oklahoma, USA

Not a bad beer overall, but nothing to write home about. bma4573 (136), Mechanicsville, Maryland, USA
