| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Mar 4, 2008 Bottled. Beer is very dark warm brown. Head is very large, off-white, frothy. Pour might have been a little hearty, though. Strong pickets of lacing hold to the glass. Head diminishes steadily, mostly, but lasts.
The aroma is malty with light notes of roasted grain, light-to-moderate notes of molasses, coffee, trace of milk chocolate; Hoppy with light notes of lemony herb, resin; Yeasty with a moderate-to-heavy note of sticky dough; Trace note of current concentrate.

The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly-to-moderately bitter with a long, slightly grippy, moderately-to-heavily bitter, moderately sweet finish. Slight astringency on gums.
The body is medium, the texture is velvety and the carbonation is average-to-lively. classact813 (5), USA does not count | 1.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 4/20 | Mar 4, 2008 resin, basement aromas, earthy, alcohol, red, brown, cloudy, tan foam, it didn’t taste that well. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 4, 2008 Pours dark brown with tan head. Aromas of hops, malts, dark fruits, candy/brown sugar. Tastes different than the brown ales I have had before, hoppier and less sweet, but it is very good. Another good brew from a quality brewery. beergeek86 (33), Clarksville, Maryland, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 3, 2008 Awesome beer- my favorite brown ale - foamy off white head. pours a nice deep dark brown color w/ a ruby hint. aroma - caramel, corn, fruit, raisins. taste - bitter sweet on the front develops into a complex combo of coffee and butterscotch and fruit. subtly salty and buttery. sweet hoppy finish that lingers... palate, light mouthfeel, syrupy, perfect. love this beer. have had on tap too and its amazing. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 2, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with mahogany highlights (under direct light) and a one finger tan head. Nose is of sweet malts, caramel, chocolate, and coffee. Taste is a fantastic combo of chocolate, molasses, coffee, brown sugar, sweet malts, that is followed up by a spicy hop character. Notes of alcohol and roast finish this out with a bit of brown sugar sweetness. A very soft and at times near oily mouth feel with soft carbonation. This is the brew that brought me into craft beers and its about time I gave it a rating. Still a favorite to this day. n49921 (108), USA

Nice dark color (dark amber in the light) with a tan head. Starts malty, than turns a bit nutty and then has a hops finish. Very nice. DWestrick (239), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA
