12oz, bottled 1/9/08. Easily one of the best brown ales I have ever had, next to the Rogue Hazelnut. Pours brown with a tan head that lasted through 90% of the beer. Nose is roasted malts, raisin and chocolate. Body is similar in taste but adds some awesome coffee, nuts, sweet malt and shoo-fly pie. Mouthfeel is smoooth with good carbonation. Goooood hops on the long finish kind of puts this in a league of its own. Much better as it warms close to room temperature. A great beer.

Aroma dominated by coffee and chocolate malts, some fruity (cherry) hoppy notes. Texture is syrupy. Finish is chalky in a good way. Good’n bubbly. Flavor of toasted sourdough and coffee with sugar and cream. Nutty Alcohol and mid with slight spicy hops finish followed by delectable roasted malt finish. Plenty of dark maltiness to match a good dose of hops. This is what I like in a beer.

Dark brown. Small, creamy, tan head. Roasted malt, chocolate, subtle hops, and some sweetness in the aroma. Same flavor with more hop presence. Medium body, very easy drinking. You could put down the 6pack without realizing it. Great session brew.

On tap. Classic brown ale flavor x10, accompanied with the many dark flavors of a stout, with a good hit of hops. Feels very thick on the palate, extremely satisfying combination of flavors and texture. I’m not normally a fan of brown ales but I knew I was in for a good one from dogfish.

paired nicely with a beef brisket. would prob work well with any red meat. 12oz bottle, nice dark brown color, nutty caramel at first but finishes hoppy.

Surprisely, had at the Melting Pot in Red Bank. Poorly poured into a pilsner by the bartender, why I’m not sure. Nice dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma of nuts, caramel, brown sugar and a hint of coffee. Taste was excellent. Nutty and rich with bit of sugar in the beginning along with those notes of coffee. Nice hops toward the end. Really enjoyed this beer. Will have it again.

Bottled 09/12/07; 12 oz bottle from mcbackus; Nose is roasty and nutty with caramel and coffee notes; clear dark brown with a medium straw head; flavor has some coffee, toffee, smoke, and caramelized sugar, but I can taste a lot of hops; only a smidgeon of bitterness in the finish!

Pours, well, brown with a few fingers of frothy tan head. Aroma of hazelnut, and oats. Interesting taste, strong molasses and chocolate tastes combine with the nuts. Malts and Hops clash- it ends up tasting like a mix between a pale ale and a porter. Very interesting.
