Pours and keeps a nice beige head. Good roasty barley taste throughout, with strong hints of chocolate and lighter hints of coffee. A nice dark brown... good balance of hops and malt. Pretty thick palate. Slight alcohol burn. Not too far from a stout. Slipstream (785), USA

Nose-clearing aroma of hops and alcohol. Flavor is full and well-hopped, with coffee, malt, and noticable alcohol in there too. The flavors clash a little, and It is not as good as I had hoped, but it does get points for originality. An odd alliance between a brown ale and an IPA. TikiE (360), Sylva, North Carolina, USA

No just kidding this was pretty good. This would be a good session beer and it doesn’t seem like it is a 7.2% beer. Has a good balance of hops, malts, and brown sugar. Not overbearing in the least. BMan1113VR (2942), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 8, 2008 Aroma is heavy hoppy with some coffee, barely and butter. Upon pouring there is a frothy light brown head that goes away pretty quickly. The body color is black (nearst makes no difference, right?). Decent lacing. Flavor is alcohol and coffee at first with a bitter and somewhat salty finish. Dry body with a bit too fizzy carbonation. Quite drinkable, but not as good as some of DFH’s other products. markwise (1200), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA

First sip is full of coffee and dark chocolate maltiness. It is like a dry stout, but hoppy and full of flavor. Very heavy beer, one of these and I need a break. Good stuff. spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 5, 2008 Pours dark brown color with minimal head. Most aromatic Ale I’ve encountered. Big flavor profile with a lot going on. Kind of reminds me of Guiness Stout but more complex. Hop bitterness nicely balanced with rich, dark, sweet malts. Seems a bit too much alcohol on the palate but I think that sensation may be enhanced by the ginger flavor. If you are looking for a brew with big favors give this a try. Well recommended.
