Taste is great-creamy, roasted malt, nutty, sweet caramel. Finishes with a nice roasted flavor. Hops is well balanced with the other flavors. One of the best brown ales I have ever had if not the best. Nice lacing on the glass. Fratto (751), Arlington, Texas, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Sep 14, 2009 Poured darker than I had expected, smells of chocolate and nuts. Not as much hops as I would have thought. Frovigalning (464), , Sweden
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 13, 2009 It poured a very dark brown (close to black) liquid with small light brown foam that left little to no lacing. It had a scent of sweet chocolate and lots of it, also some soy sauce. It also had a strong taste of chocolate, smooth and very nice. But it didn’t feel very complex and I would have loved some more different tastes in the beer. Wombata (74), Kobe, Japan
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 8, 2009 Aroma: Roasted, sweet malt, coffee.
Flavor: Initial sweet roasted malt and caramel continue into the mid-palate and finish. Ends with a long, roasted coffee note.
Comment: Well-made with long finish. smart001 (44), Scott AFB, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 3, 2009 [bottle into dimpled mug] The taste of this is chocolate and nuts. This is a very good beer, and is the first IBA i have had. There is a slightly overpowering hops taste, and the mouthfeel is a little tacky. Pours a deep red/brown with little foamy head. walrussell (121), , Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Sep 1, 2009 Good - but too much like a scotch ale for me. Had those cloying overdone flavors I’m not into. But tasty, and the hoppiness brought it back from the edge somewhat. stchloe (491), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Aug 31, 2009 Strong molasses flavor. Almost like an oaked bourbon, but a little more fruity and sugary sweet. Very nice hop finish. ksurkin (405), Norfolk, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 30, 2009 12oz bottle from total wine in norfolk. pours a translucent, dark brown with a soft, half inch, light tan head and solid lacing. aroma is very nice with big, dark, toasted malts, chocolate, and roast coffee with a hint of grassy hops and dark fruits. flavor is delicious with a beautiful balance of dark, roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, molasses, and brown sugar with piney, bitter hops and a touch of fruit leading to a slightly sweet, roasted finish. palate is smooth, medium bodied and almost creamy with good carbonation. overall, and excellent brown ale.
